Instagram Photo with Grandpa's Gravestone

I am an Instagram fanatic. I follow an actress that isn’t well known, but starred in a few movies when she was younger that were successful. Yesterday, she posted photos of herself in a car on the way to a funeral. One picture. Two picture. Three picture. A little strange she would document the drive to a cemetary, but okay.

Then she posts a picture of her and her brother posing with her grandfather’s gravestone. Both smiling and crouched down behind it, so the name/dates can be shown.

Is it just me or is that strange?

I often see people take photos of gravestones (or a cemetary in general) of people they don’t know for artistic value. Or do charcoal rubbings of old headstones. But a smiling “family photo” including gramps’ grave? It seems morbid to me. Like…is there anything that is off-limits anymore? Anyone agree or disagree?

I don’t see that as being morbid. Visiting a grave can be for any number of reasons. Celebrating someone’s life with a visit may be joyous occasion. You should check out what goes on during the Day of the Dead festivities.

I met my cousins at the cemetery where my grandparents and great-grandparents are buried, and we posed smiling by the graves. Now the last of the relatives had been buried about forty years ago, my cousins and I had not seen each other for years, and we had just been swapping memories of Grandma and Grandpa, so it’s not like we had just come from the service. But I don’t think it was morbid.
