Does anyone know what this thing is called, it’s a hand percussion instrument that sounds like a spring loaded piece of wood hitting another wood block. It’s heard in almost all their songs. I want one! It may be Latin or African in origin. Mr. beckwall says it may be a VibraSlap, but the picture of it doesn’t look right.
I think Mr. beckwall has it right. A google image search yielded this: a vibroslap signed by the members of Cake.
