Saw this one on a T-shirt…
Detroit Lions-Rebuilding since 1955
I’ve also heard the Wolverines referred to as the Weasels.
I’m going to Ann Arbor I’ll be on more horse’s ass
I used to be intelligent but that’s all in the past.
So pin a tail on my nose and point me toward the grass,
I’m going to Ann Arbor I’ll be one more horse’s ass.
The above ditty was heard on a radio station in East Lansing, Michigan, home of the Michigan State Spartans
The cheer was, as I remember it, “that’s alright, that’s okay, you’ll all work for us some day.” Fits the meter better. That said, Northwestern hasn’t been lousy at football for quite a few years now. Yes, they’ve still to win a bowl game since 1949, but they’re not the pushovers they were before the mid-90s. (And, yeah, they were bad.) I was there during the Rose Bowl and Citrus Bowl years in the mid-90s, and they fielded some damned good teams, especially that Rose Bowl one that beat Notre Dame and Michigan at home, and went into the Rose Bowl ranked #3, only to lose to USC, and ended up #8 for the season.
And the “safety school” chant was just simply “state school” at NU games during the suck years.
Growing up in Columbus, I never heard the real lyrics to the Michigan fight song, only, um, alternative ones. Nothing really imaginative, though, mostly revolving around the fortuitous rhyme of “cocksuckers” and “motherfuckers”.
