So, does anyone know how to set it up so that when I send a Tweet, it automatically gets sent as a status update to Linked In and Facebook?
Well, you can use a third-party product like hootsuite, (I think the free version will let you do what you want).
But, something I heard yesterday from a “guru” is that although it may seem like a good idea from a time management standpoint, automatically blasting the same content to multiple social network sites is a bad idea. For one thing, the format is different - tweets are limited to 140 characters, the others don’t have a limit so your FB and LinkedIn posts might seem stilted.
Each site also has a slightly different focus and culture, but more importantly if you have people that follow you on multiple channels, they may tire of seeing the same content from you. Just something to keep in mind…
Egad, why do you want to do that? Facebook is not Twitter is not LinkedIn - don’t treat them the same. I have a couple friends who blast Facebook with every tweet they send out - they’ve both been blocked. It’s incredibly annoying. If I’m your Facebook friend and want to ready your tweets, I’ll add you on Twitter.
Figure out what you want each of your social media accounts to accomplish and communicate, and stick to it. If you’ve come to the conclusion that you want all three of them to do the exact same thing, try again and spend a bit more time thinking about it.
I am basically using them all for professional purposes. The information is the same, but the audiences are different. I’m targeting people who have the same interests, but have made different choices for their social networking platform.
Sorry to continue to criticize, but I’ve just never seen a successful merging of Twitter and Facebook. To properly utilize Twitter, you need to be good at using hashtags correctly and effectively, as well as shortened URLs. To utilize Facebook well from a business standpoint, you need to elaborate, include full links, and respond to comments. (I have no idea how to utilize LinkedIn properly - I haven’t seen it done yet.) Each require their own focus and different messaging.
