I think I belong in this group; I always thought I was pretty smart, but since getting to the Dope I feel like the person who was always tops in the class all through school and gets to college, where everyone was tops in their class and you need to run as fast as you can just to stay where you are.
Also, I have been reading this thread since it started, and this is the first I’ve gotten up the courage to post. I did think about one on page one and once on page two, though.
Since we are the IDIOTS or whatever we are calling ourselves, what in the hell does that smiley mean?

I may I join too, please? I hardly ever post to threads because like others on this thread, I’m afraid of making a jackass of myself, and I’m shy. My friends think I’m smart cause I spell good and have a ton of useless knowledge that makes me fairly competent at trivia games, but science and higher math fog my brain and I’m not particularly good at debate, neither. 
But I’m cute and interesting otherwise!

I dunno…they kinda smell like my cat’s feet.
I haven’t posted in 2 & [sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] months. (My last post had the vaunted purpose of telling every Doper what songs I hate.) The intervening time has been spent trying to figure out how to ask, in the most intellectual-sounding manner possible, how soap works.
Upon reading this thread I realized that needing to know how soap works qualifies me for induction into this here club.
And, while I LIKE “Keeping our uninformed opinions to ourselves since 1973, at least most of the time” as a club motto, I’m afraid I’m unable to support it simply because I CAN’T keep my uninformed opinions to myself. I post in IMHO but not GD precisely because I have plenty of opinions but very few facts.
I really should be able to tell you how soap works. It has definitely been explained to me more than once. I think it’s because of polar molecules or something like that. I do remember that Zest, as they advertise, is not technically soap. And I know that model Jerry Hall doen’t wash her hair very often.
The sad thing about me is that I’m well educated, but I can’t remember enough about any of it to explain or argue coherently.

Lemme in here! Sometimes I feel like the poor dunce getting his face slapped in the offical Straight Dope logo. I don’t post in GD for fear of one of the fringe elements grabbing a flamethrower, hauling my butt to the Pit, and BBQ-ing it!
I have college degrees, but feel absolutely overwhelmed sometimes by the vast amounts of info on any subject out there. I can only talk intelligently on insects and 1960’s comic books it seems. Big WOW!
