When you act like your show is a classical look at the world, and then proceed to invite almost exclusively right-wing figures, allow them to say what they want mostly unchallenged (he let Milo spread anti-semitic conspiracy theories in defense of the alt-right without questioning him on it), intentionally steer the conversation towards whatever petty gripes of the day make the democrats look bad (why do you think student protests keep coming up as an issue for him? It’s not because they’re the most important thing going on in this country, I’ll tell you that much!), and refuse to actually engage with policy ideas, the result is that politics outside of the right-wing sphere feels alien and bizarre. If Rubin himself is not a reactionary, he’s about as useful an idiot as you can imagine - maybe it has to do with his funding sources. The entire format caters directly to the far right and shifts the overton window away from the left. Even on the rare occasion he does have progressives on his program, he steers them away from actual progressive ideas:
