Interceptor on Netflix

Anyone else watch this? It’s about the SBX1 ICBM interceptor platform/ a plot to nuke the US and it’s possibly the dumbest movie I’ve ever seen. Extremely predictable with massive plot-holes throughout, but fun enough if you’re in for a dumb as hell action movie.

I bet the Chris Hemsworth cameo cost as much as the rest of the movie combined.

I watched it the other night, quite enjoyed it. Bit of action fun.

I doubt Hemsworth got paid much for the cameo, his wife was the lead actor.

Thought this would be about the 80s movie where terrorists steal a Stealth Fighter.

Any humor?

I wouldn’t call it a knee slapper but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. I had a laugh at a few bits.

Okay good. This sounds like my kind of movie when I’m in the mood for mindless fun. I’ll have to check this one out.

I’d take that bet, seeing as the star of the movie is his wife.

It doesn’t take itself incredibly seriously, but it’s also not like intentionally goofy or leaning in to the bad movie trope.

This is not the type of movie where I expect realism or accuracy. I still find it interesting that this is one of the few projects where the female lead is much older than makes sense. Usually they have 20 year old women in roles that make more sense for a 45 year old. An army captain should be 27-33 years old. She is 45.

I quit watching it just after the bad guys appeared and she locked into the control room. Maybe I will finish it for it’s shear badness.

Maybe she was prior enlisted.

That would certainly push it much closer. Close enough for movies anyway. In real life she would still be too old. You can only be 7 years in grade before you get pushed out as a captain. So if she did max age to go green to gold and add the time in grade to be a lieutenant then a failed captain about to get kicked out then she would be getting close to the right age.

That’s a pretty good backstory.

I bet being married to Thor helps you get in good shape. I was happy to see she was in better shape than a lot of female action heroes.

We literally turned it off last night at exactly that point. Debating continuing, but we’ll probably give it a shot.

This is like 3 minutes into the movie, isn’t it?

About 20? All the expository dialogue and character intros, plus the first shootout.

Watched a bit more. Continues to be almost comedic. The impregnable control room is quickly breached. By just one bad guy. He is dispatched. No other bad guys use the same route? A big hole in the floor now. Guess he just wandered off on his own initiative, telling nobody else his plan?
And the new found gun works for just one shot? This is a classic bad movie.

We did finish it, and it does continue to be awful. There are several confusing plot points, including one mentioned above, but at the end of the day I don’t even have the energy to figure them out. It really came down to wanting to watch her kick some bad guy ass, and that part delivered somewhat.

It almost felt like it wanted to be a parody of a female-led action film. When the bad guy told her to “reclaim her power” by helping him I snorted so hard my cat scarred my leg.
