Interesting facts about the composer of "Route 66"

He’s Bobby Troup. Bobby Troup was a composer; besides “Route 66” he composed the theme for The Girl Can’t Help It, performed by Little Richard.

You might also know Bobby Troup as Dr. Joe Early on the television show Emergency!.

He’s the guy in Robert Altman’s film MASH* who drives Hawkeye and Trapper around in Japan yelling, “Goddammed Army Jeep!”

I discovered all of this because in the span of one week, I discovered Emergency! is streamable on Netflix, and I rented The Girl Can’t Help It. That’s where I saw his name and did a bunch of research on IMDB and Wikipedia.

Here’s to you, Bobby Troup!

Bobby Troup was married to Julie London, who had also been married to Jack Webb.

Jack Webb was the executive producer of Emergency!.

Julie London was a lot hotter than either Bobby Troup or Jack Webb.

Hotter, but not as adorable as Bobby.

I don’t plan on watching enough webisodes to find out, but…

Were Dr. Brackett and Nurse McCall getting it on? My six-year-old self missed it if they were.

In one early episode she mentions making dinner for him.

Emergency! is also available on hulu (at least the first 2 seasons are). For a while it was implied that Dr. Brackett and Nurse McCall had a relationship outside of work. I don’t know what she saw in him. Dr. Early was cuter and more stable.

The voice, man. Brackett had a killer voice.

Certainly in the early seasons there were scenes where Brackett and McCall were lounging after or before work at her apartment. I figure that implies things.

Ah, Julie London! I’ve cried many a river listening to her sing…

I saw what you did, there…

Ha, ok, “Route 66” is one of the coolest songs ever written, but I saw the Subject Line and came in to post about Julie too, but got beat.
