Interesting Veronica Mars rumor

There’s a rumor about Veronica Mars on TVGuide :

I think this could be absolutely wonderful–that is if they get the chance to have a 4th season, which is unlikely.

Veronica fans, what do you think?

I think that would be great. It would catch up to Kristen Bell’s real age (she’s nearly 27), and the show might find some new viewers who are put off by the perception that this is a show for teens.

I’d watch that too. It’d give them an excuse to introduce some new characters. I’d like to see Veronica interact with more adults. I enjoy the scenes with her dad more than her friends. Cuz I’m old.

Heres the latest rumors:

It may be she is an agent, NOT in the acedemy.

Brian

I’m all for it.

…and then she’s sent to interview a serial killer, to help the FBI catch another serial killer…

The problems I have with that are many (though anything that gets me another season of VM is better than anything that doesn’t) and they mostly revolve around the fact that there’s no way she could keep the gang with her. As little as we see of Wallace this season, I’d like to imagine we’re not going to completely lose him, Mac, Logan, her Dad, and everyone all at once. As described, it’d basically be a spin-off show for the main character, and not at all like VM.

But a huge part of the fun of VM is watching her work the system from the outside. I’m not sure watching her work the system from the inside would be nearly as cool. And working outside the system from the inside is kinda done, you know?

As long as they have Roni & any two of: her dad, Mac, & Wallace, it should be okay.

Changing the premise of a television series is usually a very bad sign, but Veronica Mars has been a consistently great program so if anyone can pull it off they can. Mark me down as willing to go along with the change but with reservations that it might be the jumping the shark moment.

I’m willing to go along with anything that gives me more Veronica.

I don’t know if I’d call it really changing the premise so much as advancing it. I think V in the FBI academy or as an agent is a pretty organic change, considering the setup they’ve already put so much effort into.

So long as the FBI accepts really tiny blonde agents.

In some ways I’d find it more believable than the idea that she’d keep hanging out with the same group of people year after year. Keep one or two other actors – her dad, Mac, Wallace (OK, maybe three) – then push forward.

Very 24-ish, if it happens.

Yeah, I’d be cool with just Wallace or just her dad.

Or just Mac, which would be odd but OK.

Or just her, even. It’s a progression of the premise, & not that strange of one. The show is, after all, Veronica Mars, not Neptune High.

Would anyone believe me if I told you I had this very idea myself, some months back? Seriously, I thought of something quite similar a while back, probably because there was a lot going on in the first couple of seasons that revolved around the relationships between Roni’s mom and Jake Kane back in the day. Some of those early season episodes felt like fast-forwards from an earlier time. Given that background, it makes some sense then to stretch the timeline in the other direction as well.

That said, I’m not sure there’s anything so wrong with the show now that it needs to do this. I’ll keep watching, bold move or not, but I do worry that there’s tinkering going on that doesn’t need to be.

Call me on the fence, but not so opposed that I’d stop watching.

The thing is - the best scenes are with Roni and Keith and having him tag along to Quantico (or wherever the academy is) doesn’t seem plausible. Maybe Rob Tomas is just stirring the pot, hoping to create a buzz that will help a renewal.
In any case, should the show be cancelled, I’ll be sure to check out the next projects from Bell and Thomas.

I’ve seen tinier. They just have to be in shape.
