So I tried waxing my legs today.
I tried it once before, long before I first went to a salon. Bad idea. It was horrible. I was using stuff that smelled like pine tar, I had to keep it hot and everything was sticky for days after.
This time, I had nice sugar stuff that you don’t have to heat up, and I’ve been to the salon bunches of times so I wasn’t too worried.
I have really thick hair and it hasn’t been done in ahem a while, but I have gone into the salon in this state and come out smooth and hair-free. So I gave it a go, just like they do it in the salon.
It worked okay, except I couldn’t get more than 2 good rips off a strip (in the salon they re-use them at least 3 times). And I missed a lot of pieces, particularly those with awkward angles.
So my question:
- Can I go over those leftover bits now or should I wait a couple of days?
- Any tips to make next time easier?
Sheckstress does this quite a bit at home. Only legs, though. She gets the rest professionally done. That being said:
- Use cut up denim instead of the strips from the box. They’re more durable, better washable, and is a great use for worn-out jeans with the hole in the crotch.
- 2 times for the start of the season is still ok. 1 time is not. Try to get all the hair the first time, and tweezers to pluck the not-before-gotten hairs. If the furry part is big enough, you can go back with the denim.
- Get a mirror about the size of a piece of letter paper. It helps for looking on the parts you can’t see. If it’s a makeup mirror, it will magnify your missed spots for you.
She also recommends biting the bullet and either buying an epilady or going to the salon for the first time of the season or if it’s been a very long time.
Wait 'til your legs look ‘healed’ before you try again.
The sugary stuff is crap on most thick-haired women. The non-water soluble stuff is annoying to clean (alcohol or baby oil works), but is much more fficient. That being said, this may be one of those things best done by a professional. At least if you’re planning on going beyond your legs.
