International Breakfast Foods

The hotel I stayed in when I went to Madrid won the award for the most choices. It was a buffet, but in a ballroom about an acre in size with 50 tables of food if there was one. They might well have had chocolate y churros, I never got that far. If we didn’t have an appointment at our plant for the day, I might never have left that place.

I’ve also had breakfast at the Savoy in London. Kippers (I love kippers) and toast on little racks.

It’s sold out.

How much is it, assuming it were available?

Here in Texas, breakfast tacos are ubiquitous. Scrambled eggs with chorizo (sausage), bacon, potatoes, refried beans, cheese, salsa, etc. wrapped in a tortilla. You can build your own (I usually just have beans, cheese, and potatos). They’re awesome, cheap, and really easy to grab on the way to work. I’m always amazed that they haven’t become the nationwide standard for breakfast.

Darnit! I bookmarked it because I was thinking of getting one. They were only $14.95 for the set last I looked. Maybe they’ll have more after the holidays?

Kippers? Dried little rotten fish that have eleventy billion sharp needle bones in them? People really eat those?

I know. That had cool handy kitchen gadget Christmas present written all over it.

Egg cups? EGG CUPS?

People who eat soft-boiled eggs deserve to lose their empire. Blech!

I went to Greece on a high school trip and remember being served cheese and crackers and I think fresh fruit for breakfast, and coffee. I was longing for some biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns, etc, and a big glass of milk.

Wow that sounds amazing! I really want to get one now…

Not to hijack this thread too much but if the idea off eggs and marmite appeals to you then I urge you to try my ‘patented’ egg toasty:

Make a 1 egg omelette small enough in diameter to fit between 2 bits of toast without too much overhang, make 2 bits of toast and lightly butter one slice then spread with marmite (if you like it very thinly spread add a bit more than usual) spread a layer of tomato ketchup on the other (dry) piece and then assemble into a sandwich. I believe/hope I invented this and would love any feedback as I think it’s really tasty and quite unusual!

I’m really jonesing for a boiled egg with Marmite soldiers now, I’m not even much of a Marmite person. [ETA] WILLASS I will certainly try out your innovation, sounds delish.

I think purists would say that potatoes have no place in a Full English Breakfast, certainly not chips (that is chipped potatoes, not potato chips). You add chips and you’re veering towards brunch territory. But the hash brown has made inroads into the FEB in recent years, and I for one welcome our hash brown overlords. Yum.

I eat soft boiled eggs all the time and have never heard of an egg cup. Just use a shot glass with a large mouth and you’re golden.

Well, the UK version of the site lets you preorder them for when they get back in stock, not so the US version. Dang Brit’s bogarting the Dippy Egg Sets! We yanks saved your bacon in WW2!

mmm … bacon.

They clearly understand their target audience, the ‘egg and soldier’ crazed Brits get first dibs on the contraptions due to obvious US apathy towards this most noble of breakfast items!

Wow, you fancy one and your not even a Marmite enthusiast? I’m impressed!

Re: potatoes. I think that potatoes in a full English really finishes it off whether it’s in bubble & squeak, fried potatoes and onions or the classic hash brown. For the record here is my perfect fry up:

sausages
bacon
mushrooms
tomatoes (tinned but the juice cooked down with a knob of butter and white pepper, delicious!)
bubble & squeak
black pudding
toast
tea
Daddies Sauce

bubble & squeak? :dubious:

Leftover cabbage and potato fried up. Very tasty.

I like ordering “Double Bubble” in a cafe… just because it sounds good to say out loud.

You can travel the world over (I have seen a good chunk of it) but you can’t get much better than a nice, cold slice of pizza!

The remains of the previous evening’s curry and garlic naan, a mug of strong tea, and a smoke is the breakfast of champions.

Leftover curry is very nice, but kedgeree is better.

Manx kippers used to be really popular in the UK for breakfast.
