It’s Day 2. No reason to declare at all.

England declared once Foakes went to give the SA batters a tricky little session, but they survived it. England day though, especially after lunch.

England by an innings and 85. Really superb bowling by England. Got 3 early, hung on for a long spell (Leach had only 26 runs conceded in 23 full overs of bowling), then cleaned up the lower order quickly at the end of day to finish things off.

Two matches in and this series has yet to have either a 4th innings or even a 4th day.

South Africa 151 & 179
England 415/9d

Final match starts 9/8 at The Oval.

England/SA rained out today. I understand that they will NOT play tomorrow due to the death of the Queen and will resume Saturday.

SA 69/6, which is actually something of a recovery with all the wickets falling in the first hour or so.

They sang the new National Anthem at the start of play, I was expecting the ‘King’ bits, but ‘Send him victorious’ sounded very odd.

Wow, surprised they are playing. EPL is cancelled today.

ETA: oops, missed the previous post. Glad I popped in, as now I have something to watch before college football starts up

Ridiculous decision to stop for light when England could have wrapped it up inside a few more overs. Now the series will end in front of a largely empty stadium.

Somebody heard the umpire say that it’s fair because it gives SA the chance to get a draw if it rains. How would an affective non-result be good for the sport?

Anyway, it won’t rain and England should wrap it up within 30 mins tomorrow.

Dead on. 28 minutes and England win by 9 wickets in a remarkably short Test.

It’s been a remarkable summer, really. England’s attacking mentality has served them well, as has some excellent bowling in conditions that have suited, but the opposition have not been short on bowlers who can take advantage. SA made some curious tactical decisions (two spinners in the second test, for one). I don’t think anyone would have seriously predicted 6-1 over the summer for England, but the change in management has obviously worked.

No one is talking about Pakistan’s T20 against England today? Azam (110 off 66) and Rizwan (88 off 51) were the only batters Pakistan needed to chase down 199 (203/0 with 3 balls remaining). Series now tied at 1-1 with 5 matches remaining. Next one is tomorrow.

I’ve been in meetings for 16 hours today. Just saw this message and looked at the scorecard.

Look, Pakistans strategy for winning games is.

  1. Babar and Rizwan have to bat the entire innings. Not get out.
  2. Shaheen has to get 3-5 wickets every game,
Follow this to the letter and we’d win every game. Any deviation, we lose.

From the County Championship Lancs v Essex @ Chelmsford.

Lancs 131 & 73 defeated Essex 107 & 59
At one stage four completed innings in one day looked feasible.

The combined run-tally in the match of 370 in four innings was the lowest in the County Championship since 1980.

Lancashire became the first team in first-class history to win from 8 runs 6 wickets or worse since 1922. (Lancs lost their first 6 2nd innings wickets for 7 runs)

Every underperforming junior cricket team in the world will think they aren’t that bad after all!

Some more T20 action today. Australia/India had some field issues and so was cut to 8 overs a side. Australia just finished up at 90/5 (19 in the last over). India up next.

England currently seems firmly in control of their match. They put up 221/3 (Duckett and Brook the big heroes at 70 and 81 respectively) and have already gotten both Rizwan and Azam out.

21/3 at 4.1/20 overs for Pakistan.

This one could be over (or effectively so) very quickly. It looks like @AK84’s analysis was spot on!

India (92/4 with 4 rem) won their match over Australia (90/5) . They got on top of the worm from the get-go and while their pace slowed towards the end, stayed above relatively comfortably.

England simply thrashed Pakistan. 4 early wickets, 1 more in the middle overs and now a few more late. Pak never had the run rate they needed and there really wasn’t much drama to this one at all. A convincing win for England after the record-setting chase yesterday by Pakistan’s lead-off batters.
England 221/3
Pakistan 158/8

Both series taking tomorrow off. Back on Sunday.

I am actually glad Shan Masood got some practice.
The bowlers need more penetration (duh) and the field placing needs to be better.

Lahore has better support for bowlers, which is good.
And larger boundaries, even better.

What’s everyones view of mankading?

I think it’s a sport, with people’s careers and records on the line, and that it’s within the rules so is legal. The amount that batters try to steal is ridiculous, and it needs to be kept in check.

There was nothing in this incident that could remotely be characterized as trying to steal a run. The bowler went right through the crease before turning around to dislodge the bails.

Which incident? The original?
