I mean, they might, NZ looked very good

As bad as Australia got beat, I feel another loss would effectively eliminate them. They would definitely need to rely on some upsets to move forward.

It’s not unreasonable to suggest that Australia could still win every game from here on in and still get eliminated through NRR

I’ve been meaning to ask a question about “mankading” since we had the discussion a few weeks ago. How is this reflected on the scorecard? Certainly the act can’t be considered a bowled ball, right? And does the bowler get credit for the wicket on their bowling average, or would it just count as a runout?

It’s a runout, and recorded as such. So it doesn’t go on the bowlers record, and it doesn’t count as a bowled ball.

This image, of course, is apocryphal … I probably don’t need the T20 World Cup at all.

The India/Pakistan game is getting good now. Pakistan dragged themselves up to 159, and pegged India back at the start of their innings. But Pandya and Kohli are in at 83/4 needing 77 off 43 balls. Doable for both sides!

Unbelievable comeback. I told myself at one point that Pakistan will have to hand quite a few free runs to India for it to happen, and boy did they!

Goodness gracious, what an over:
W 1 2 7nb 1w 3b W 1w 1 for 16 runs and the win.

The Pakistan bowler must be just devastated.

Tomorrow it’s Bangladesh/Netherlands and South Africa/Zimbabwe.

Not sure if Azzam mucked up his bowling but having Nawaz bowl the last over surely wasn’t Plan A or Plan B.

Kohli did the damage on the 19th over. Rauf is both good and steady but an extraordinary drive on the up for 6 was just mastery of the art of batting in liited overs. It looked like India would require well over 20 from 6 but “only” 16 brought the target just within reach. But the 6(nb), w, 3b off effectively turned the match that was exquisitely in the balance with only 4 deliveries to go.

Only two incidents that in a match that seemed to be played in great spirit.
Ashwin claiming a catch that bounced into his hands. Diving forward and low he couldn’t have been sure of the catch, even if he had taken it cleanly.
And Pakistan claiming that the free hit that rebounded off the stumps should have been a dead ball. I guess it was desperation and after the umpires confirmed the call it seemed to be excepted.

90k in the crowd with alternative halves going off their collective nuts.

I always felt that play should stop with any direct hit onto the stumps from a fielder (or really any time that the bails are dislodged in a legal way). Too many unfair runs often result from a skillful play.

That said, I though Kohli taking that 3rd bye after the free hit ball was risky. I thought he should have sacrificed the run to retain the strike. That wide to Ashwin was the killer for Pakistan.

It wasn’t a no ball. The umpire were overawed by Kohli. Nawaz bowled well, got Pandaya out first ball. Kohli barely cleared the stands for the six. If the umpire had done their jobs and told Virat where to get off when he demanded a no ball, it would have been 7 off 2. Bowling the wides was smart at that stage, he got a wicket off it. It was a risk worth taking
(The runs off the bowled were just bad luck, the field was backing up it just went where the fielders weren’t.).

The option for the last over was either him or Shaheen. Who has precisely zero overs in a competitive game since early July. Was the right call.

I was proud of the way they played today, despite having to bat in some of the worst batting conditions I have seen for a while and then having India supporting umpires to deal with.

If you don’t want to get the wrong end of borderline decisions then I suggest not bowling borderline balls. It was not a great example of death bowling.

Really exciting game though.

Oh Lord! Be better than this.

Tell me you didn’t watch the game, without telling me you didn’t watch the game.

When it’s 6 off 3, bowling wider is smart when bowling medium pace. Otherwise chances are they hit it out the park if it’s even slightly off. He got a stumping out of it. And very nearly a dot of what would have been the last ball of the game. He bowled one bad ball. Maybe.

Well the umpire has an IPL contract to consider.

I watched the ball in question a dozen times. At worst it was borderline.

Maybe you should be looking into Nawaz for match fixing.

Just to be clear, I’ve been supporting the Pakistan cricket team for almost 50 years. Unfortunately I’ve been embarrassed by other Pakistan supporters for about five minutes less time than that.

It wasn’t borderline. Kohli was outside his crease when he played it. And the square leg umpire didn’t call it when the ball was bowled and the shot played. It was only when Kohli called at him did he “correct” his decision. Didn’t even check with the third umpire. Turned a 7 off 2 into a 6 off 3 with a free hit.

And in the 30 years I have been following it, I have been embarrassed by the self loathing types for 5 minutes less than that.

The two wides were bad balls, the no ball was borderline and if it were any further towards the legal side it would have been a medium pace full toss anyway.

When it is 13 from 3 I don’t think a full toss and two wides are a solid strategy.

Not wanting to cry cheating when you lose is not self loathing.

Oh FFS. The six and the Erasmus assist came at 13 off 3.
That would have led it to being 7 off 2.
Instead it was 6 off 3 and a free hit. Yes a widish ball was an good idea. A risk, but better than the alternative.
If it’s 7 off 2 p, Kohli is going to try and make sure he has the strike off the last ball. At 6 off 3, with a free hit , he has every reason to hit out.
