Bloody good as far as I’m concerned!
You’re younger than me???
oh well, I always wanted a toy boy!
So is anyone interested in going on the London Eye on Saturday afternoon? I know Anahita likes the idea. Anyone else?
Oh, and ianzin, no way is 40 too old for DopeFests. You’ll be fine!
hmmm, how about going to the pub, and maybe grabbing something to eat before we meet up with the (light-weight) peeps meeting later at the Silver Cross…
Londoan eye sounds good…
But I guess we can formulate a “plan of action” when we all meet up - after a few beers of course??? grins
hey, I still hope to make it. Either to the 1 or 7 meets. I’m 35.
You will know me because my entrance will be heralded by a choir of angels and 12, 000 virgins will be crouched at my feet.
To be honest, I’m getting a bit sick of all these angels and virgins following me around all the time. Oh sure, it was great at the start - “Choirs of Angels!” they said, “Make an entrance they’ll never forget!” they said, “And all for only £9.99 per month!”.
So muggins fell for it.
And now I’m lumbered with this bunch. Oh it’s great when they’re all singing in harmony when I make an entrance but the rest of the time they just sit round my house playing blackjack and smoking cigarettes.
And they’ve got a BAD attitude, man.
And I’m sure there’s some funny business going on with them and the virgins but I can’t prove it. Just such a pain when you wanna make a discreet entrance into somewhere.
sorry,rambling…
London Eye… I was under the impression that one either has to buy tickets waaaaaaaay in advance, or take a chance on the day when the queue (that’s a ‘line’ for our American friends) can get longer than a game of Mornington Crescent played blindside Stirrups on Zone 2 stations. Which is to to say, very long indeed.
But I could be wrong.
Other options (weather permitting):
-
head Baker Street-ish for pub(s) then quick jaunt to nearest M&S or Sainsburys for supplies then improvised picnic and rowing on the lake at Regent’s Park
-
BodyWorld exhibition on Brick Lane
-
go watch and heckle the buskers on Cvt Garden
-
Tate Modern for the art buffs
-
combined pub crawl and pub quiz with quiz book in hand (possible teams: men .v.women [nah, too easy a walkover for us guys], Brits .v. visitors, ancients [31+] .v. toddlers [the rest] )
-
combined pub crawl and ‘Who Wants To Be Millionaire’ quizfest with WWTBAM book in hand
-
Camden Lock + market, always worth a visit
-
a Thames Cruise
-
a London Walk (check TO to see if there are any good ones happening at a suitable time)
-
afternoon tea at Harrods, pricey but if there are enough furriners who want the experience maybe we’ll try for it
-
The South Bank, for the ambience, bookstalls, whatever free exhibtions are on etc.
I’m pretty sure I’m the only 'merikan, but my husband is Irish, so I know all the ‘lingo’.
Tea at Harrods sounds nice, but if no one else wants to do that, I don’t mind. I’m totally open to any and all ideas.
I know I won’t see much of London in a few hours so, I’d rather just enjoy the general feel of the place. I love big cities myself, so, London is one place I’ve always wanted to visit.
Actually, Anahita, you aren’t the only American, and ** ianzin** you aren’t the only 40 year old. I’ll be the tall, long-haired, old Yank under the clock. And the last time I went on the London Eye, I just walked up, got a ticket, and was on within about 5 minutes. It was mid-week and a bit overcast, so Saturday could be a different story.
For recognition purposes, I will be the hungover 27-year-old, probably unshaven and probably wearing either a blue T-shirt with a cutaway Ford Capri on it. I may be slightly late as I’m having birthday beers on Friday night that may extend into Saturday.
The only photo of me on the web is this one here, but it may be a little out of date.
Actually, there are some photos of many of us (including v. unflattering ones of me) here
So you have been warned.
ps Crusoe: bwahahahaha
pan
Here is me.
Well one of me and loads of my darling daughter. She’s much bigger now! Don’t worry, you’ll be forced to look at a photo.
Put it back in yer trousers, Twisty
BTW, still unlikely to make Saturday but I’m working on it. Looks like it will be a lot of fun, though. Hoping to make it.
I quite like the pub warm-up theme. While Harrods and the Eye sound entertaining, I was once thrown out of the former and am likely to throw up on the latter. I can always amuse myself in Covent Garden, mind, so don’t plan around me.
Damn… I missed that…
A replay* for Synnic.

I didn’t realise these LiveJournals were so popular!
Or no longer free. Ah well.
