Here are some things that have happened in the last month:
Got done for spending too much time on the internet at work (Ahem)
Concluded needed to go cold turkey for a couple of weeks (other than completing my WC predictions - whatever happened to that?)
Saved client $100 million.
Went on holiday to Kefalonia for 2 weeks.
Came back to find company very pleased with me for saving client $100m. Pay rise. Internet problems all forgiven.
Decided to go another week without SD, just to be sure.
Had a look today. Behold - am missing Dopefest, including old friends and individuals not previously met IRL.
Panicked, since have promised to go with the kabbess to Brimingham this weekend to watch her play in her company 5-a-side tournament, which includes evening ribaldry in low-down establishments.
Conclusions?
A) You’ll sadly probably be seeing somewhat less of me round these parts. Sadly for me anyway. No doubt joyous for you. But I shall attempt to have a sensible bit of SD time henceforth.
B) I don’t think that I can make it this weekend. At the very least I can’t make it without letting down lots of IRL people, including my own girlfriend.
C) I’m wondering if I can arrange to do anything with any of you on Friday night…?
I shall be entertaining guests at home, while simultaneously trying to watch Liverpool vs Real Madrid on Channel 5 (damn you, social life!). Sorry kabbes.
I shall be around on Friday pm. Two days in London are better than one, for me. More shopping. Ooh, but Liverpool v Real Madrid on telly? Hmm… maybe the Hammersmith branch of my fave Persian restaurant would have it on telly instead of the usual dull fashion channel and interesting Iranian soap opera. Probably not. It’s not that important - only a chance to drool over Finland’s Gift to Football and Women without earning funny looks from the man of the house. Oh, God, the shame.
And get a ruddy computer at home, you bizarre little man. Of course, then you’d have to put up with the slow tired hamster speed that evening brings.
Kabbes get on the train down to Wokingham on Friday night. It’s where all the cool people go. Myself, Laurange, Yojimbo, Coldie, Alex and Kferr are all having a pleasant evening in my local. With alcohol. It’s a direct line from Dorking, right?
Meeting at The Hope and Anchor pub at 7.30pm - come out of the station, see the Molly Millar pub, walk up that road to the roundabout and it’s there on the left.
Coldie- I believe L-C has confirmed his attendance
Also, I got a hopeful email from ObiWan yesterday - it looks like he might be able to squeeze us in.
d’oh. I meant “on the Hammersmith Road” but I was all rambly and I missed the vital words out.
It’s called Yas, it’s in Olympia, on the Hammersmith road, right opposite the exhibition centre. Best lamb kebabs in the whole world, ever. There’s a branch of same by Hyde Park, too.
I may check that place out next week Tansu. The exhibition centre is hosting the Great British Beer Festival next Friday, and I’m planning a little jaunt there.
Isn’t this ‘Yas’ gaff on the main road…a little row of shops and restaurants almost on the junction with North End Road ? Been past often, never thought to pop in. Been a while since I’ve skewered something foreign…
BTW, I’m finding the vagaries of life closing in. Still almost certain/definite to be at the Mitre but, as things stand, I’ll probably need to drive. Might only be around long enough to share a shandy and soil the carpet with male scent Which is very unfortunate and I’m still working on it.
Who wants to share Shandy – I hear she’s uncomplicated with her options…
BTW, nice to see you kabbes ! - don’t let the bastards get you down.
Yep, that’s the place. Open until 5am. Big blue clay bread oven in the window. You can watch the bread chap rolling out nan and slapping them to the inside of the oven with a little pillow.
I appreciate the vote of confidence fellas, but grind nothing. I was on the ol’ net too much at work. And they were very nice about it - just pointed out that I was one of a number of people (and a long way from the worst offender) and they have rewritten their code of conduct accordingly… let bygones be bygones, just stop, 'nuff said.
In my defence my use has been entirely because I was being grossly underworked. In their defence, I perhaps should have been somewhat more proactive at making sure that I wasn’t underworked. The argument is actually a lot more complicated than both those sides but I’ve no wish to hash out the respective faults of myself and my employer, especially not on MPSIMS!
SD and Caramel-coated crack. It has been said before and will be again. I’ve been clean for a month… I can take just a small hit…
