Internet Aprils Fools Pranks

What internet pranks did you notice?

  1. Something Awful had up a fake front page. They do this kinda often, though.

  2. FARK used random script to alter your comments in the forums–such as redneck, baby, chicken, etc.

  3. Fucked Company announced they had been bought out by company they have been terrorizing for a while. They even mdae a fake yahoo! link http://news.yahoo.com:PK%20Interactive%20Receives%20Funding%20from%20idealab@216.150.6.36/Yahoo!%20News%20-%20PK%20Interactive%20receives%20funding%20from%20idealab.htm

  4. Ebay’s front page used backwards graphics.

  5. Gamespot announced that the latest problem facing the often-delayed “Duke Nukem Forever” was that they couldn’t make it fit in the new small compute game boxes.

What do you see?

This one on bourque.org got a lot of attention.
I thought it was pretty funny, even if it DID cause our dollar to crash for a little while!

Joke a Day pretended to sell out to AOL.

Coming Attractions posted lots of nonsense including this page about a planed remake of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I’m thinking they got a bit carried away.

TheOneRing.net put up a fake news story claiming that there’d been a screw-up in the vote counting at the Oscars, and that Lord of the Rings was going to lose its award for cinematography. They put up a fake CNN page and everything. I have to admit I fell for that one – I wouldn’t put it past the Academy. :stuck_out_tongue: (And, in my defense, they put it up Sunday night, so I didn’t immediately think of the date.)

They took it down after about three hours, though – maybe they got tired of angry letters.
