Aprils Fools Thread

Well, there’s been the Google one, as pointed out in another thread. What other April Fools Day pranks have you seen? Internet or otherwise.

For my part i’ll add in the joint Mugglenet /Leaky Cauldron one, which probably won’t make much sense to people who don’t frequent them.

Neopets has a “neocharge” box on the side of the screen, that bills you neopoints every time you click a link.

There’s always fark.com.

thinkgeek.com is amusing as well.

homestarrunner.com too.

alt.movies.silent has a couple up.

Politics NJ has a great one (if you now anything about NJ politics) on their main page.

Looks like Wikipedia has collected some.

Probably only of interest to people who went to Cornell, but the Cornell Daily Sun completely hooked me with an article about incoming president David Skorton resigning due to differences with the Bd. of Trustees. Skorton got the job because his predecessor, Jeff Lehman, “quit” (probably got the ax) after only two years in office.

In an effort to diversify the demographics of its users, Slashdot has adopted a pink “OMG!!! Ponies!!!” theme for their front page. And of course, most of today’s stories are bogus - Microsoft buys OpenOffice, Duke Nukem Forever reviewed, etc

I got the Fark one last night. Heh. Google.com is not showing me anything funny, but Google.ca is… a new Google service for…

Yahoo is merging with Netscape and moving the whole shebang to Israel. The new company? Net’n’Yahoo.

Nicely done.

That reminded of another good one:

Sun Microsystems is going to be bought by Apple computer for 10 billion dollars, the new company will be named… Snapple.

Go right now to Google Earth for some fun:

Go to Area 51, look closely betwen a couple of F-16’s, the New Scoot-n-Hide shelter and Hanger 6, you will see a UFO on the ground with a couple of aliens having a barbecue!

I’ve been listening to NPR since about 10 this morning, waiting for the fake news story. Didn’t see anything on the home page either.

Maybe I missed it. I’m not all that quick on the uptake. I totally bought the zip code story from a few years back.

April 1, 2006 (Renton, Wash.) – Mothers and daughters will be delighted to be the first to experience the My Little Pony Roleplaying Game, coming this August from Wizards of the Coast, a developer and publisher of game-based entertainment products and a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., (NYSE:HAS). This first-of-its-kind roleplaying game features characters inspired by the legendary My Little Pony storyline.

Mike Doughty, singer songwriter, is running for senate. Check out the picture.

And hey, if you go to Google Earth, where Area 51 is, you’ll see some aliens having a barbecue!

 Happy April Fools!

Area 57 steak sauce included!

Ok, sorry for the double post, I really thought it did not go in the first time.

On my site, yesterday I eliminated a very popular off-topic subforum from the tally of users’ post counts. People who had 5,000 or 6,000 posts woke up to find they had a count of only a few hundred posts. (I did it yesterday, because usage drops quite a bit over the weekend.) Today, I’ve got the Houston, Texas Zoning Ordinance featured as a site of the day. (You’ll get it if you’re a planner.)

Slashdot has an OMG CUTE!!!11!! pre-teen girl theme.

<snrk!>

Gotta love that My Little Beholder.
