Anyone download this yet? If so, whatchathink?
My search box disappeared!
The search box was merged with the address bar.
I appear to have it, but frankly I haven’t bothered (and don’t much plan to bother) to learn to use it, especially as they seem to have hidden nearly all the controls away in some non-obvious place. I know my way around Firefox and it does what I need it to do. (Even FF, in its latest version, jumped on the bandwagon of hiding most of the controls by default, but I have managed to did them out by now.) Even if the new IE is better in certain respects, it can’t be more than minor improvements. Who cares if some pages render a tenth of a second faster or something?
The default search engine is Bing, though, so you should change it to Google.
I use IE9 on my netbook and when I installed it, it asked me to choose my default search engine. But I like it. I still use K-Meleon (Like Firefox it’s based on Mozilla) for my desktops
It seems good enough, but I still prefer Firefox for it’s* greater flexibility.
*It’s or its? Neither looks quite right…
Its is correct.
It’s is short for “it is.”
I still prefer Firefox for “it is” greater flexibility? No.
IE9 is currently the fastest browser in most cases, with Chrome beating it in some places. Firefox is the most balanced, but is technically slower than both.
Opera, Konqueror, and the variants of the above are not included in my assessment. Safari currently is, but a new one is coming out soon, I think.

Since this OP is looking for opinions, I’m moving the thread from GQ to IMHO.

I don’t use IE much, but I did briefly download version 9. It took about half an hour for me to be hugely irritated by it and I reverted to the previous version.
Unless there is the threat of having my finger nails pulled out, or some such, you won’t get me using it any time soon. We just upgraded to IE8 at work and the glaring contrast between my net experience here and between my chrome/FF browsing at home is extremely unpleasant.
On a related note, does anyone actually have Bing as their first choice for a search engine?
There was a stealth Microsoft update last year (or the year before) that changed one’s default search engine to Bing; I think it was called the Search Optimization Buttfucker or something. It was the single biggest reason I declined to use Bing. If MS feels they have to force or trick its users into using it, screw 'em.
My wife updated to IE 9 on her vista laptop and then couldn’t print anything due to script errors. Reverted her back to IE 8.
