Internet Explorer provided by Comcast High-Speed Internet

That’s what it says in my browser’s title bar. I had to make the transition to Comcast (from attbi) yesterday, I downloaded some wizard to change my settings because I was afraid I’d forget the date. How do I get rid of the “provided by Comcast High-speed internet” part? I know it’s in the registry, but where?

My cable company did the same thing.

Run regedit and under Edit use the Find command.

Check all three “look at” boxes. Search for whatever they display.

I think you’ll find the string you’re looking for more than once.
Clear them all.

I searched, but I couldn’t find anything with that exact phrase.

Matter of fact, I searched for “provided by Comcast High-Speed Internet” and the search is coming up with nothing. What is going on? Is my regedit bad?

Try this.

Thanks aktep, that’s what I was looking for!

Don’t search for “provided by” I think that is a default phrase.

Search for “Comcast.” You’ll find it.

This fix might only work until you log out, depending on how comcast made the change. Comcast could have set the local group policy to override the window title, in which case that registry key will be re-set every time you log in.

Luckily, there’s an easy way to fix that, too. Go to the Start menu and choose “Run…” and type “gpedit.msc” (without the quotes) to bring up the Group Policy Editor. Go to “User Configuration” -> “Windows Settings” -> “Internet Explorer Maintenance” -> “Browser User Interface” and double click on “Browser Title” in the right-hand pane. This will pop up a window that lets you turn off the title bar customization or change it to your own message.

I’m bringing this back up because just what you said ntucker, it did come up again. I am running XP Home and I don’t have gpedit.msc. Is there any other way to turn off title bar customization permanently?

Never-mind - I am stupid. :smack: I have two computers, and I had only done the regedit thing to one of them so far. It is still working, now to do this one.

Thanks, ntucker. That’s been annoying me for quite some time. I can always count on a Doper to have the answers to life’s probing questions!
