OK, I am using Windows 95, and looking at genealogy sites, and asnswering e-mail.
This message Internet Explorer Script Error shows. It will say that an error has occurred in the script, object expected and do I wish to continue on the page.
Of course I wish to continue. I will select yes, and the error will come back.
Does this error message serve any useful function?
Yes it does have a purpose: to show that the programmer of the web site made a mistake, either in fetching someone else’s content or in programming Javascript or Active X. If you constantly receive such an error everytime you try to do something, anything on a page, then avoid that page at all costs. Programmers, and I am one, heed this: make sure you web page don’t generate errors such as the one lindsay described. Test it first, before you post it. And if a javascript applet is causing problems, then scrap it.
Well I would tell you to reboot your computer and see if you still get the errors, but a number of people on this board are out for your blood based on your Wally remarks, so I am going to guess they are going to weigh-in with YES!
It depends on what version of IE you are using. If you use IE version 3 (the one that came with W95) you will usually get all kinds of JScript errors. Upgrading to version 4 or 5 will probably solve many of your script errors.
lindsay, you remind me of that commercial of the guy who says he isn’t a doctor, he just plays one on TV. I don’t think you are a stupid person, you just play one on SDMB. A truly stupid person couldn’t keep up your pace.
