I got the opportunity to interview at MSU’s Dept. of Entomology today and I’m really excited about the job and the possibility of maybe getting the position!
It’s for a Technical Typist position; it would involve desktop publishing, typing grants, newsletters, etc plus they want the position to work into being a back up for the webmaster/computer services person, which I’m very interested in also. It sounds like the job would have alot of variety, independence, and creativity, which are all things I value in a position.
During the interview, they (of course) asked about my long term goals and I let them know I had applied for the nursing program at my local community college but didn’t know if I’d been accepted yet (and wouldn’t know until May). They asked more about it and said," well, at least you are up front about it". When they asked how I would work it out going to school full time and this position (which is full time), I said,“well, in an ideal world, I would go to school full time, work during the times I wasn’t in class and then work after hours.” It didn’t seem to phase them too much. Actually, the interview went really well and continued for another 1/2 hour, plus they showed me the office I would work in if I got the position.
I’m so psyched about it! Both ladies I interviewed with were really nice and said the staff is pretty much like a family - they do lots of research and don’t have too many undergrads; mostly post-doc and graduate students.
I think I was about the last of their interview because they said they were finishing up interviews today and would be making decisions on who to bring back by next week.
Keep your fingers crossed for me or in your prayers!
Sorry this is so long - I’m just really excited about it! MSU has incredible benefits, decent pay (even though I’d have to take a small to medium paycut to take the job), plus incredible educational benefits (that also apply to the local community college my nursing program would be at!). I could also probably ride my bike to work.
Okay, I’ll stop talking now!!
