Into Which Hogwarts House would _____ Be Sorted?

Inspired by the Potter excitement thread, someone mentioned his son talking about which house Darth Vader would go into, and said it would obviously be Slytherin.

Well, I have to disagree–Anakin Skywalker would have been sorted into Gryffindor, almost certainly. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have ended up turning into Darth Vader, but I just don’t see Anakin going into Slytherin (think about Wormtail, who was a Gryffindor but ended up joining Voldie’s team).

And then I started wondering about other heroes/protagonists of celluloid and paper. Into what houses would they be sorted, and why?

So I’ll pick the Buffyverse: Willow Rosenberg almost certainly would have gone into Ravenclaw. Buffy Gryffindor; Xander probably Hufflepuff. Giles at the appropriate age would have gone into Gryffindor. Anya would be in Slytherin. Tara would probably go into Gryffindor, I think, but she’s harder for me to sort. Spike, definitely Slytherin. Angelus would have been Slytherin also, both when he was alive and when he was vamped.

Oh, and this isn’t really Izzybella. It’s N. Sane at Izzybella’s computer.

Okay, carry on!

Interesting question, but I’m not sure I agree with your choices. There’s this tendency to think of the Hufflepuff house as containing the less bright students. But it’s ideally for students who progress through hard work where the other houses’ students have personalities geared more towards smarts or bravery or ambition.

Thus I think Xander would go in Griffindor, for much the same reason Ron (also not a good student) is there.

Agreed with Willow, Buffy and Giles - though Giles is harder to sort. The younger Giles’ rebellious nature may have put him in Slytherin and the older Giles has a touch of Ravenclaw.

Tara and Anya strike me as more Hufflepuff.

I think Spike belongs in Griffindor. He’s often brave at the expense on his brains or his ambitions.

This is the geekiest thread I have ever seen on this board, and this being the SDMB, that’s saying a great deal. :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree. Anakin in Gryffindor. There’s ample evidence that the Sorting Hat responds to choices, and Anakin really starts out thinking he’s the good guy. Slytherin’s more for people who recognize that their cunning and ambition outstrip other priorities.

Nope I think Anakin would be in Slytherin *because * he was so ambitious. So would Julius Caesar, for the same reason. Marc Anthony would be Gryffindor, but Cleopatra was *so * slytherin she committed suicide by snake!

No, I think Anakin would be in Slytherin, if only because of his immense ambition to be the most powerful Jedi ever.

Obi-Wan, now, would definitely be in Gryffindor. No two ways about it.

Yoda-Ravenclaw.

Aragorn would be in Gryffindor, Sam would be in Hufflepuff. The rest, hmmm, I want to say Gandolf would be in Ravenclaw, but he might be a Gryffindor.

I disagree with all these.

11 year old Giles doesn’t seem that he’d be that far from the Giles who joined the Eygon cult. Bravery, loyalty and honour weren’t his strong points at the time.

Ravenclaw, perhaps - he was still bright, if not yet so bookish.
Slytherin, maybe.
Hufflepuff, not so much.

Adult Giles is Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.

Spike, at 11, was still William. William’s a total Ravenclaw candidate. Bookish and intellectual. Even as Spike, he’s more of a Gryffindor, to be honest. (Yes, even when he’s evil.) Brave, loyal…ok, also a lying SOB, but… Still…more Gryffindor material than Slytherin.

Liam doesn’t seem to have the ambition or cunning to be a Slytherin - although when he turns he gets better. Definitely not smart or intellectual enough to be a Ravenclaw, either. Nor as loyal or brave or etc as a Gryffindor. I guess he gets Hufflepuff by default. Angelus would fit well in Slytherin. Angel’s a Gryffindor to the core.

Bart Simpson - Slytherin
Lisa Simpson - Ravenclaw
Marge Simpson - Hufflepuff
Homer Simpson - still trying to find Platform 9 3/4 (someone should tell him it’s not between platforms 3 and 4!)

Fox Mulder - Gryffindor
Dana Scully - Ravenclaw

Thraxas - Hufflepuff
Makri - Ravenclaw

I’d put Brutus in Gryffindor, Cassius in Ravenclaw. I’m not so sure ambition alone is cause to put someone in Slytherin. After all, it’s hard to find yourself in charge of anything without a good measure of ambition.

I’ll have to disagree with most of this. Here’s my list of Buffy characters and their houses:

Willow - Gryffindor in a second. Haven’t you heard of Hermione?
Buffy - OK, you got me here. Gryffindor all the way.
Xander - Hello, Gryffindor. Hufflepuff is for hard workers.
Giles - Ravenclaw. He’s never ambitious enough for Slytherin and when he grows into Gryffhood is way too old to attend Hogwarts. But he’s always a nerd, even when summoning ancient demons.
Anya - Hmm, tough one. I’m not going to say Slytherin, she doesn’t have the concentration. Post-demon she seems most Gryffindor, if only for the bluntness and good heart. On second thought, she might have a close brush with Hufflepuff on the way.
Tara - Gryffindor. I don’t think I have any questions here.
Spike - Ravenclaw when he was alive, Gryffindor when he was evil, really Gryffindor when he fell in love with Buffy.
Angel(us) - OK, he’s a lot of different characters. Liam would have dropped out of Hogwarts before the Sorting ceremony. Angelus is Slytherin; Angel is Gryffindor.
Now for some slightly more minor characters:
Oz - I’ll have to go with Gryffindor.
Faith - See Liam.
Drusilla - Would make the Sorting Hat explode. Or whatever house Trelawney was in–make that Ravenclaw, shall we?
Darla - Pure Slytherin.
Quentin Travers - Pure Slytherin. It had to be said.
Kendra - Gryffindor.

OK, I’m done.

Danny (champion of the World): Slytherin. Talk about your ambitious lad who gets ahead through trickery! He could get into Ravenclaw if the hat’s feeling whimsical.
Charlie (owner of a certain confectionary facility): Hufflepuff. Not ambitious, not especially brave, but dedicated to hard work and immensely loyal. A whimsical hat puts him in Gryffindor.
James (of immense stone fruit fame): this one’s tough, but I’m tempted to say Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.
Willy Wonka: Ravenclaw, I think. Man’s brilliant, and his ambition seems to be a side-effect of his brilliance.

Daniel

Agreed on all points. Hmm, let’s continue:
Matilda - RavenDUH.
Miss Honey - Gryffindor!
Aunt Trunchbull - She was never a child, remember?
The young boymouse of Witches - Gryff.
His grandmother - Ravenclaw.
Sophie - Gryffindor, maybe Hufflepuff. Mostly just small and cute.
Sophie’s big friendly acquaintance - Gryffindor/Hufflepuff as well. The thing with the dreams.

Oh it truly is a geeky thread, Hamish, but I’m sure there have been worse (namely strong interest on more obscure geek topics)

Westley: Gryffindor, as pretty much any dashing hero on this thread will be.
Buttercup: Hufflepuff. She’s not the smartest (cite: her horse is named “Horse.” Her dog is named “dog”), not the most brave or cunning or power-hungry. She’s just there, a gorgeous lovelorn idiot.
Inigo: Not sure if I’d go Gryffindor or Slytherin. On the one hand, he’s not an evil guy, and his ambitions (revenge) aren’t so grand. On the other, revenge as a life ambition is pretty dark.
Fezzik: Hufflepuff. The bigest, strongest hufflepuff ever (though do we know Hagrid’s house?). One of the standout characteristics of the hufflepuffs are their loyalty.

Vizzini: Slytherin. Coldhearted evil Machiavellian bastard, and not nearly as smart as he wants to believe.
Prince Humperdinck: Gryffindor. Not a popular gryffindor, but gryffindor all the same. Talk about brave to the point of stupid. He fights bears in unarmed combat for fun. Though his vanity and quest for ultimate domination would give a strong chance at Slytherin.
Count Rugen: Ravenclaw. He’s a scholar. Just so happens a scholar of pain.

Miracle Max: Ravenclaw or hufflepuff. I get the distinct feeling most healers in HP are hufflepuff stock, but to be miracle man to the king (before the king’s stinking son fired him, thank you very much for bringing up such a painful memory), you need to be top of the field, very smart.

Mal - Gryffindor

Zoe - Gryffindor

Inara - Ravenclaw

Wash - Hufflepuff

Book - ???

Kaylee - Hufflepuff

Simon - Ravenclaw or Gryffindor (Gryffinclaw?)

River - Ravenclaw, before the brain slicing

Jayne - Slytherin

Little hijack here. It was my post that inspired this thread (I’m a she, btw, not a he) and I feel so ungeeky now. I don’t know who you all are talking about except for the Simpsons.

I’m feeling a little thrilled anyway. Who’s kidding who! This made my day!

Anyway, Family Guy:

Peter: Hufflepuff
Lois: Gryffindor
Brian: Ravenclaw
Meg: Ravenclaw
Chris: Hufflepuff
Stewie: Do I really need to say? Dude, that’s Salazar come back to life!

[sub]I can’t believe I’m saying this but[/sub] I disagree. I’d call him strongly Ravenclaw. Sure, he also has very strong elements of Slytherin, but the overall impression is that a kid in diapers who can talk better than anyone he knows is more Ravenclaw than a kid in diapers who wants to take over the world but fails a lot is Slytherin. IMO, YMMV, etc.

Mine (Westley, Buttercup, Inigo, etc…) is of course the dear Princess Bride (my explanations having both a bit of book and film in them). What do you expect from my username, really?

Kirk: Gryffindor
Spock: Ravenclaw
McCoy: Gryffindor
Scott: Hufflepuff
Sulu: Ravenclaw
Checkov: Hufflepuff
Uhuru: Hufflepuff

This is now offiically the geekiest thread on the internet.

If I may state the bleedin obvious:

Pinky: Hufflepuff
The Brain: Slytherin
