Introducing the former Bruce Jenner

It’s one thing about whether the Kardashian/Jenner clan deserves privacy. They’ve forsaken 90% of their privacy for media attention, you can argue about whether or not they deserve that last 10% of privacy. I would say that they still deserve to keep some privacy of they want, but I’m not going to get into a big debate about it.

But the thing is that you can’t call Caitlyn he/she, and make jokes about her genitals, and do other stuff like, and still sound like you’re totally okay with transgender people. I can imagine that if a trans woman heard people making jokes about Caitlyn’s genitals and speculating about what’s going on there, that woman would be worried that those same people might do the same to her.

Or Wild.

Had Caitlyn tried to do everything in private, the paparazzi would have been all over her anyway. As far as privacy is concerned, that cat isn’t getting back into the bag.

So she decided to take the narrative into her own hands. I think that’s the best option she had.

Since Kris is trademarking “momager” and Kendall and Kylie are trademarking their first names (no, not just the first and last name combination will do!), maybe Caitlyn Jenner will trademark her name too. I’m just glad she didn’t spell it with a K.

by my calculation 5/28/2015 was in fact Thursday.

Whoops. My bad; I read that as April 28.

This famewhore is a bad example for the vast vast majority of us who arent transgender. Wher s/he to come out as a normal 65 year old woman it would be awesome. But s/he has to be a 65 year old positioning herself as a young woman. What a fear of aging this represents and is a horrible message for the rest of us.

According to the Diane Sawyer interview she said she has felt this way for as long as she can remember and used to dress up in her sisters cloths back when she was like 7 or 8.

According to a transwoman, Zoey Tur, that has done a couple of interviews on an L.A. radio station about being trans since the Jenner thing became known said that about a third stay attracted to women and a third flip and become attracted to men and the last third do whatever. (I forget what she actually said about the last third.)

Here she is:

DrunkySmurf - thank you! My question really was a serious one. With all the hormones that are taken to effect the changes and with living as a different gender, I was honestly wondering how such people sorted out a sex life after the changes.

hi there. i am desperately curious what you and your community thinks of this. from where i’m standing, an egomaniac who has already jockeyed to build a Realty TV empire is now parlaying his transgender issue into a kind of circus side-show, ONLY releasing information in the most media-frenzied ways possible, as to maximize profit.

what is your opinion? is he a courageous hero? is what he doing positive to the transgender community in any way?

i have to remind people he could have done a science-based documentary on a more academic channel, but that would not have been as profitable for him, so he held out for an E! contract (for max money, of course). I am not sure in any of this I a brave person or a champion for the cause. I see someone taking something deeply personal and manipulating it into a vehicle of profit.

I, being a white male am not entitled to speak on behalf of your community, so I am very curious of what the sentiment about this would be.

Because 16 million people watched his interview with Diane Sawyer, and now 16 million people “know” a transgender person.
Here’s a video interview of trans people talking about Jenner.

Yeah. I don’t see why she can’t use the (massive) tools at her disposal, still be courageous due to facing the ever-present ridicule that’s always around the corner no matter who you are, help people and all the while profit mightily from it. More will know about her struggles, begin to understand the concept of what transgenders go through and the stigma will decrease ever so slightly because she is someone they sort of feel connected to. I can’t see this as anything but a step forward.

“Aren’t,” jumpy. “Aren’t.”

dontbosojumpy, I’m quite sure you’ve misread madsircool’s post as he indicates he is NOT transgendered - I have bolded the relevant bit.

Also, your insistence on misgendering Ms. Jenner throughout your posts as highlighted below is obnoxious and is deeply disrespectful to the trans community. You can choose to think that Ms. Jenner is a fame-whore, and a bitch, and an obnoxious waste of skin but if you are truly respectful of the trans community and asking questions as a means to fight ignorance as opposed to just being contrary, you should make an effort to get it right.

Your previous assertion that Bruce had not yet advised people to address her as she, and her and woman has been refuted by multiple posters. At this point, if you elect to ignore this, I have to assume that you’re just being a jerk.

Here’s what actress and transwoman Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) has to say about Caitlyn’s cover.

no, you and other posters have pointed to a headline saying “call me Caitlyn.” I have directed to reports and cites where he has also said call him other names, but finally settled on a release officially asking him to be called a HE, which was published four days ago.

If you can find some cite similarly where he has officially requested to be called “she,” show me. And I’ll call him ‘she.’ But I am not going to just because it rattles your personal sensibilities, as you are not involved. He released a dang statement THURSDAY saying “he.” Give me a break.

And this is a quote from her twitter account yesterday:

“Caitlyn Jenner ‏@Caitlyn_Jenner Jun 1
I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”

I assume that is adequate for you?

An airbrush in the hands of a good artist can make a prune look like an peach.

Not even almost. He’s talked about “the woman” inside her for a while now. Her name was Belinda. Er, he means “Agnes.” At this point, I could as easily assume a personality disorder.

I mean, on a real level, why would he release a statement asking to be called “he” in the first place, and given the fact he did, wouldn’t you expect him to explicitly usurp it? Be reasonable: if someone releases something so explicit, they’d need to equalize that with something else referring to it. He has not. You are presenting things I should ASSUME renege an official, EXPLICIT statement. It’s assumption. You are assuming.
