Bruce Jenner is becoming a woman

So say all of the tabloids. And now I’m hearing it mentioned on the entertainment news programs. (Not that it’s been subtle for anyone who pays any attention to him*). Apparently, his transformation will be turned into an E! Channel television special (surprise surprise!)

I, for one, am happy whenever a person finally gets to the point where they can live their life authentically. I imagine that getting to this point has been emotionally difficult for him, and for his family.

Still, my exposure to Bruce Jenner has been through the over-exposure of all things Kardashian, and there’s a part of me that just wishes the entire family would go away. But, if his transformation can help garner any level of acceptance for different lifestyles, I say good for Bruce.

Your thoughts?

*Don’t hate! My wife likes watching E! News. I’m usually surfing the Dope (longtime lurker), so it doesn’t bother me. But you can’t help but glean the gossip, even if inadvertently.

I’ve heard this enough places now to assume it true, in which case…is she changing her name? I feel weird calling a woman Bruce.

Also, does this mean that Bruce Jenner is now, in fact, an old lesbian?

They were speculating what her new name would be on the Bob and Tom Show the other day and really couldn’t come up with anything.

Jenny Bruce?

As his full name is Willam Bruce Jenner, that opens some options for a cognate woman’s name.

I think that if Jenner is actually transitioning the new name should be something completely unrelated to the old name. Maybe Sparkle Mintjulep Wildhammer. If you’re going to make a total transformation why not go all the way? Actually, I don’t care - Jenner can announce whatever, I’ll make a note of it, and use that name going forward.

I initially did not like Chaz Bono going with “Chaz”, but in retrospect it was actually a darn good way to change from “Chastity” and might even have been a long-term nickname among his friends and associates, which would simplify matters for those around him.

I find it easier to believe that he’s becoming a woman than it is to believe he’d allow the transition to be a series. He seems more private than that hellish clan he’s married into and this is ultimate invasion of privacy, and to my knowledge he certainly doesn’t need the money.

Those “CHiPs” residuals aren’t going to last forever.

What, you mean he isn’t rolling in dough from*** Can’t Stop the Music***?

I’m torn on this. On one hand, its good for America to be exposed to transgendered people, it would be an opportunity to dispel myths and stereotypes, and show how the process works.

On the other hand, being part of the Kardashian clan, he’ll have a lot more hate than typical transgendered people, and there will be endless mocking and judgment that may not be present in someone who’s not so famous. He’ll be talked about on shows that typically don’t stray into gender politics, and all of it will probably be in the context of what a big joke this will be. Bruce too, will probably feel pressured to be personable and take jokes with good humor owing to his public TV past.

Apparently when he married Kris Kardashian, he was the rich one. She was comfortable from alimony and child support and whatever settlement she got from Kardashian, but she wasn’t megarich by any means, while he was from his endorsement deals and 6 figure personal appearance fees and investments. She did not sign a prenup, because it wouldn’t have been in her best interest to, but the reality show made her richer than him and the lack of prenup gave him claims to her worth as well as his own substantial wealth, so…

He ain’t hurtin’.

And he’s clearly just trying to get a role on Season 2 of TRANSPARENT.

Good one.

(My view of the situation-- Good for her.)

I’d never have thought this of Bruce in a billion years, and likewise, “not that there is anything wrong with it.” The last couple of years, however, it’s not quite as much a surprise.

Don’t have much good to say about any of the Kardahsian women, other than how beautiful most of them are, at least on the outside. I did think Kim handled this issue with Bruce recently in an interview quite well though, and seemed to be 100% behind him.

Back in his day, here I see this macho guy, or at least he seemed like that to me when he won his gold medal, and with his athletic abilities and all, along with having been married three times, having six children by his first wife, I think a couple more by the second (don’t follow him that well, nor do I the Kardahsians)—it just goes to show you there is still a lot I do not understand about how all of this takes place.

I hope if someone does get to interview him, I’d like to know if he always wanted this, or was he quite fine being a man during all of these years until recently. Just when did he start thinking it would be much better for him to have been a woman if all of this is true.

Regardless of the answers he gives us, I’ll wish him or her all the best.

There is, of course, a not-unfamous writer who, as a man, was actively gay. Then switched genders, continued to write… and was actively lesbian.

I have lost *so *much sleep trying to parse that one.

Brucinda?

This thread is interesting. I’ve seen all the tabloid fodder about Jenner, but I’ve been assuming all along that the sleazier elements of the American press were more or less making fun of recent age-related changes in his facial appearance. Had no idea there was an ounce of substance to these reports.

So … everything is totally, 100% confirmed? I see upthread there’s supposed to be am upcoming reality series about Jenner’s transformation … totally legit? Or is the series something that’s merely rumored to be in the works?

How much about all this is unassailable fact right now?

Supposedly, Diane Sawyer has been tapped to interview him ahead of the transition and docuseries about that transition.

I wonder if a person might consider such a move as a way to push their career forward. I could imagine a person who would be OK in either gender role deciding to transition as a publicity stunt.

If you believe this report, his own mother has confirmed the rumors.

I read somewhere that his first wife used to catch him wearing her bras. If true (and that’s not altogether clear), this has been simmering for a while.

Did they have hormone treatments? Because I understand that sometimes those can change your sexuality.
