First of all, hi everyone. I’ve been lurking for a while (by that I mean finding threads on this forum through Google and reading them) and finally decided to join up today.
So here’s my introduction. I’m a Chinese Australian woman from Sydney who turned 20 last October. I really like Tolkien’s books, writing my own (still unfinished) novels - I’m actually working on one right now- and musical theatre. I thought this forum seemed really interesting which is why I decided to join. And I really hope I can avoid getting into Internet arguments and having my posts misinterpreted
My husband has recently started a new career as an author and it’s been fascinating to learn more about that industry. I wish you every success in your endeavours!
Little bit of Tolkien trivia for you: Edhelwen is the more “recent” form of that character’s nickname. Eledhwen is the older form. When Christopher Tolkien was compiling the Sil and the rest of his father’s works he mistakenly used Eledhwen instead of Edhelwen. That’s why the name is spelled that way.
Welcome aboard! My gf and I have been watching The Hobbit, then the Lord of the Rings movies one by one, and plan to go see The Desolation of Smaug ASAP- all of a sudden, just this week. I think she’s going to read all the Tolkien books next to get away from the spy/mystery stuff for awhile, and I’m tempted to pick them up again myself since it has been something like 25 years and I don’t think I appreciated everything on the first go. I’m really enjoying the utterly over-the-top drama in the latest film adaptations.
Hope you enjoy the board. Hardly a dull moment around here. And, oh, btw, I’m not nuts, don’t let anyone tell you I am
This may well be a topic for a poll ( or a trip to the pit ) but I may well be the only person to have never read any of Tolkien’s books. I tried a couple of them but l lost interest after a few chapters.
Whee, we get to have an initiation ceremony! Haven’t had one for a while.
<starts rummaging through SDMB closet> Where’s the goat? And who left the squid in the corner? Now we gotta go buy a new one, and I ain’t cleaning that mess up!
