Intrusive ads on my Samsung Android phone

Samsung S7 Edge, Android 8.0.0.

Several days ago, full-screen ads started popping up every few hours. I’ve looked online, and among the cures I’ve attempted are deleting recently added apps (in Safe Mode), and installing and running Malwarebytes. No joy.

When they ads show up and I hit the Switch Apps button, the window with the ad is labeled “Suggestion.” Other than that, I have no clue what is causing this, or how it got on my device.

I’m afraid I’m going to have to do a hard reset on the phone, and I’d really rather not have to go to all the trouble of starting over from scratch.

Any suggestions?

I was finally able to solve the problem myself. When the next ad showed up, I hit the Switch Apps button, then long-held on the banner of the app, which revealed it to be “Bluetooth Auto-connect” (a fake name) and from there I could uninstall it.

I have no idea how it got on my phone; I probably hit a random link on some dodgy page by mistake. It was an inconvenience for a few days, and I’m very relieved I don’t have to do a hard reset and reinstall all my apps and accounts from scratch.
