more obnoxious ads

These days, when I attempt to read the SDMB on my android phone, thread pages often redirect me to a site that ends up launching the Google app store and trying to get me to install a game called Candy Crush Saga. I’m unable to actually read threads when this happens.

This still remains the only ad-supported site out of the dozens I visit on a regular basis that seems to have a problem keeping malicious ads out of my face.

Sorry to hear you’re having this problem.

Is anyone else seeing this situation?

While the possibility of a rogue ad is always present, it is more likely this is a local problem happening with your device. Please see this thread Coupons/mobile phones ad in the corner.

Hope you can get this resolved soon.

WTF does that thread have to do with this user’s problem? Emily was having an issue with ads ABOUT mobile phones in the corner of her browser. The OP is having problems with obnoxious ads ON their phone. NOT THE SAME THING.

Have you HAD your morning COFFEE yet!!!?

I’ve had the same issue happening to me lately as well. The hijack only happens on this site while browsing on my phone. It seems to be happening without me touching anything. I was able to grab the redirect link today.

Does anyone know of a good adblocker for android phones?

I will forward this to the Sun-Times ad guy but I’m betting this is not part of the Sun-Times ad package.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a legitimate ad on this site that redirected people or blocked the page, we want you to stay here and read and post so why would we send you away?

This is not to say errors have not occured, this is not to say that a “rogue ad” has not been slipped into an ad package. But these are rare and unusual situations.

Regardless I’m sure this is very aggravating and I’m sorry this is happening to you.

No, it is not. For future reference, if you’re going to try this kind of brush off, it helps if you can manage to sound like you know what you’re talking about.

I know this stuff is not directly in your control and that must be frustrating, but constantly trying to put it back on the users as if it’s their fault is just really poor form. It frustrates the users and makes you look incompetent.

Just wanted to add that I’ve been having the same problem as two dollar tailboy. Only on my iPhone 4. Never from my PC.
I’ve noticed the problem for months on this site and never on any other sites. I hope it can be resolved.

I use AdFree, which downloads a hosts file with null-routed IP addresses for a lot of ad servers. But this tool requires you to have rooted your phone.

The alternative is run mobile Firefox (fennec) with the adblock plus addon.

BTW, I found this recent threadon the Chrome support Google group, in which the consensus opinion is that it’s an advertising asset served from the “adtrack.king.com” service you cite. I suspect that one of the Dope’s ad brokers includes one of these in the rotation. It only looks like a client problem because the advertising probably doesn’t get served to a browser which identifies itself as a desktop system (since it’s advertising a mobile-only app), and the javascript for the ad redirects to the appropriate app store URL for the platform.
