I’ve set the margins properly in page setup, but when I go to my page to type, my cursor is squished right up to the top edge of the page. If I type, and go to print preview, the margin appears and my text is in the right place.
Typing things where they look like they’ll fall off the page is really annoying me, and I can’t figure out how to arrange it so that the margin I’ve set is there as I type. The side margins are there, so why not the top?
It’s Word 2002, on Win XP, if that helps. I’ve tried the wizard guy and some googling, but I’m still stuck.
I’ve had the same problem as the OP, and it’s not a matter of not being in Print Layout. The page is shown correctly in Print Layout, except for the abscence of a top margin. Printing (and Print Preview) work fine. Using headers eliminates the problem. Presumably just a bug, but how the hell does such a bug survive in such a product?
I can’t produce that effect no matter what I try doing! Headers, no headers, screwy header spacing, nothing I do produces that problem.
Not that I don’t believe you. I found a serious bug when using Word to do a mail merge with an Excel spreadsheet, and trying to specify three or more selection criteria - major screw-up, and no service pack has ever corrected it.
Nope, the second thing I did after checking page setup was to try all the different views. None of them help at all.
I know it’s not actually affecting anything, but I keep wanting to hit enter a few times so I see a margin, and then upon printing find that my text starts 4 inches down the page!
What frustrates me is that I know I’ve managed to fix it before somehow, by clicking all sorts of things. But I can’t remember how!
Found it!! I’m not sure what causes it, but here’s the cure. Move your cursor to the top edge of the page, until it turns into a little symbol with two arrows, the top one pointing down, and the bottom one pointing up. Click your mouse. Magic!
Don’t ask me to explain, as it makes no sense to me whatsoever!
