He probably got fired and they still released it…I love mine. Why?
His name is Gray Powell, although I haven’t been able to determine if he was fired.
Could I use ‘disappear’ as a transitive verb in this case?

I really can’t imagine he got fired. This was only a big deal because Apple news gets people to visit websites.

It definitely depends on the culture at the company. I don’t think firing him would accomplish anything unless this is a series of mistakes like this.
The culture of the company? This is Apple we’re talking about. It’s extremely secretive. According to the Gizmodo article linked to above, an Apple engineer was fired for showing an iPad 3G to Steve Wozniak just a few minutes after the secrecy embargo ended. But Woz doesn’t think that Gray Powell was fired.
