IPOD Help.

For my Wife. I don’t use it.

When I plug in the iPod to the computer, I get an error saying that I need to “Go the the Summary Tab in iPod preference and click restore to restore this iPod to factory settings.”

For one thing, there is not a ‘Summary’ tab. There are no tabs at all. In the iPod software. So much for restore and preferences.

WTF?

She has lost here playlists on the IPOD itself. All the songs are there, just not in Playlists.

At her account at the iStore. The playlists are there. But there does not seem to be a way to sync the two.

Nothing is obvious with this software.

(sorry, I’m being a bit pissy. This should not be hard).

In iTunes, on the left side, there should be a list with some headings. At the top, “Library,” then “Store,” then, if the iPod is connected, “Devices”.

Under “Devices,” there should be a picture of the iPod and its name. If you click on this, the iPod screen comes up. The tabs are across the top, and the “Summary” tab should be selected by default. There is a button in the middle of this screen that says “Restore”.

And as far as the playlists go, it depends how you have your iPod set up. Once you have the iPod selected under devices on the left list, if you pick the “Music” tab at the top, you should see several options. You probably want “Sync Music” to be checked, and then you can either sync all of the playlists, or you can choose specific playlists to be synced.

The iPod is connected.

I have -

Library
Store
Playlists

No Devices.

I’m going to boot with it connected and see what we get.

Thanks.

I’ll be back.

The boot with the iPod attached worked. It did sync the playlists back up when it went back to factory settings.
