iPod Question - Connection Issues

My iPod has been acting all kinds of wacky over the last couple of days. It’s the 4th generation, 40 Gb model. I’m running iTunes 6.0.3.5 and Windows XP Home.

On Friday night, I was listenting to the iPod and at one point a song ended and before the next one began I heard a brief clip of the song that I had heard previous to the one that had just finished. It lasted for about a second and then the next song started. Thinking that I might be imagining things, I skipped back to the previous track and listened the last 15 seconds. The same thing happened again.

Fast forward to last night…

I’m plugging my iPod into my USB drive and the Do Not Disconnect screen comes up and the iPod is showing up as my J: drive. However, iTunes is not recognizing that it’s been plugged in and any attempt to open it through My Computer leads to the window freezing. I tried to restart the iPod and to restart my computer, neither worked. So I left the iPod to play over night to drain the battery. Today, I watched it drain and followed that up with a restart of the iPod. I restarted my computer, plugged my iPod in and it worked.

A couple of hours later, I clicked on the iPod via iTunes in order to update it and then we’re back at square one again. iTunes freezes, the iPod seems stuck on Do Not Disconnect and I’m forced to restart.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what’s going on? Similiar experiences?

Thanks.

Not really, but I suggest you check on the Apple site for firmware updates for it.

I occasionally have problems with mine not being recognised automatically by the USB system in my PC, but a bit of jiggling and it comes good, and it’s never frozen.
