I have a 3G iPod that I use with a Dell Dimension 4600. I plan to switch [back] to Mac in the next year or so (can’t wait).
When I reconfigure my iPod to synch properly with my pending iBook - will I lose all the songs and “stats” (number of times played, date added etc, I really love this function) when I reconfigure everything, or will the ipod retain all the information as it makes the transition to Mac-based formating?
To clarify: will switching my iPod’s software from Windows to Mac delete all the information contained therein?
You need to export your library file from ITunes on your Dell.
Then import the library onto your new IBook.
Obviously, you’ll have to transfer all your MP3 files as well.
If you’ve bought any music from ITunes, there may be an extra step involved to activate your IBook to enable it to play these files.
You’ll probably find everything you need to know on the forums at IpodLounge - they have step-by-step instructions on how to move your library between computers.
Also, if you’ve bought music from the iTunes Music Store on the Dell, and you plan to sell/toss it, make sure you deauthorize it (via iTunes) first. You don’t want one of your “Computers allowed to play my music” slots to be taken up by an unused machine…
