iPods on a plane?

Are iPods allowed on a domestic (US) flight? Not just the new security rules, but in general?

Yes, but you’re not allowed to use them during takeoff or landing. They will tell you when the electronic devices may be turned on, and they will tell you again when they must be turned off.

You’re a little behind the times. I heard a news report that said the London bombers had their explosives in liquid form in bottles, and were going to trigger them using small everyday electronic devices like iPods. The liquids have been banned, I dunno about the iPods.

In flight from the UK to the US, all carryon has been banned (except for passports & other essential travel documents).

In the US, the only additional requirement is that no liquids or gels are allowed. They haven’t yet banned ipods, laptops & other electronic devices.

Not quite true. Once you have been through security you can buy what you want from the air-side shops and take it onto the plane. The only exception is for flights to the US where you can’t take any liquids with you. Manchester Airport’s website gives the details.

I want these motherfuckin’ iPods off this motherfuckin’ plane.

AS of midnight last night, you could not have anything but essential travel documents and necessities on flights between the US and Britain and France. NO beverages or reading material. Specifically, it was noted that no beverages from the airport were allowed in.

May have changed by this morning. Numerous other threads on these topics are active right now.

I think it is different flying UK to the US where you can take on board reading material purchased after security control.

Not yet. British Airways reports on their website that they are unable to keep up with the amount of checked baggage, and here are their current restrictions (bolding mine):

Rereading the BA site, I see that it’s not clear whether you can buy a book past the security checkpoint, but if you could, then wouldn’t people have been doing so for the past few days?

This is often true but the rules are bit more convoluted.

The FAA rule says that portable electronic devices are entirely prohibited (with some exceptions; see link) although the airline can allow any devices it has determined will not cause interference. The wording of this rule in effect gives the airlines complete discretion as to what to allow, or to allow no devices at all.

Regarding your iPod, check with your airline.

iPods. . .on a plane!!

… the only reason I wanted to look at this post was to see how long it was going to take…
