Something in the back of my mind is telling me that there were missing components from the 12.10+ versions, that the 12.1 version corrected, like installation of the iPod Helper, etc. I also had to re-activate “Bonjour” in my running services, to which, I have no frickin’ clue what it does.

FWIW I just plugged in my iPod Shuffle and fired up iTunes (12.11.3.17) and when I did an alert popped up in iTunes that I don’t have all the components to connect an iPod to iTunes. I clicked “install” and then the Windows installation verification came up, something installed and my Shuffle showed up in iTunes.
I’m guessing maybe iTunes just recently added this feature? I dunno, it’s been a while since I updated my Shuffle.
@Tripler might not want to upset any apple carts with his current old version of iTunes, but I thought I’d share this for anyone else who finds this thread.
