Hi all, Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but im currently at the end of my rope with this iPod
It seems like My computer and iTunes as well as the iPod updater will not recognize the iPod, But when I plug in the ipod to USB or firewire the thing starts charging up like a champ…so it charges and I can scroll through menus etc…but the computer will not recognize it so I can’t perform a restore on it…
Did you update with new software recently? Mine did that. Had to go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> USB Root Hub (double click) -> Power Management and unclick the box that turns off the hub to save power.
If hawksgirl’s solution doesn’t help, you’ll probably have to get a little more invasive.
First, hit ctrl+alt+delete to bring up the task manager and click on the Processes tab. From there, end the processes named iPodService.exe and QTtask. exe. If you have a Quicktime logo in your system tray, that should disable it.
Then go into the Control Panel, then Add/Remove programs and remove iTunes, QuickTime and any versions of the iPod Updater you have on your machine.
Then do a Search on your entire hard drive and delete anything that has “Apple,” “iTunes,” or “Quicktime” in its name. Then empty your Recycle Bin. (Exception: All your music might be in a folder that has “iTunes” as part of its name. Do NOT delete this. If you want to be safe, make a copy of your music library in another folder).
Start up the iPod updater and plug in the iPod when asked… it should hopefully work this time. However, I have seen instances where only a total re-install of Windows fixed the problem. Good luck!
I know what you mean. I actually fix iPods as part of my second job, and sometimes getting the whole iTunes/iPod thing working on Windows can be a laborious process.
A couple other things I didn’t point out in the steps I outlined above:
[ul]
[li]Turn off your anti-virus program during this process.[/li][li]You may also have to disable a process called iTunesHelper.exe.[/li][/ul]
I don’t believe there’s an Apple Store in Newfoundland, which is too bad.
SNenc, Do you mind if i contact you Via MSN messenger or Email some time to help me troubleshoot this thing? none of these sugestuons are working and it seems as though the ipod is now going through a million different error messages
Whenever I have trouble with USB devices, the first thing I try is to plug it into another USB port (on the same computer).
The next thing I try is to go to Control Panel -> System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager, and see if the device in question is listed. If it is, delete the device (click on it and hit the delete key), then reboot and let the computer detect the device again.
