Iron Sky--I've seen it [Open Spoilers]

So I found a thread we had back when the trailer was out, but the movie is now available from Netflix, so I have finally seen it for myself. Anybody else see it?

The tagline for this movie is or should be “President Sarah Palin vs. the Nazis from the Moon.” It is an…amazing movie.

My capsule review is that, for some people, the tagline will make you ask “Can the movie possibly be that good?” The answer is yes. Yes it can be that good.

The rest of the people will ask “Can the movie possibly be that bad?” Why, yes, it can.

In fact, this movie is beyond good and bad. It has Nazi hold-outs on the far side of the Moon. A woman is sucked out of an airlock and has all her clothes torn off. A flying saucer crashes in a pot plantation. Space zeppelins! Moon motorcycles (with sidecars)! A super-gun that shoots through the Moon!

This movie has enough crazy for three movies. It deserves to be seen much more widely. Check it out!

There’s still one video store here in town, I may see if they have it.

I did not like it.

[li]The acting is atrocious.[/li][li]Too many subtitles. You can’t just vegetate and watch, like you do with most other trashy movies, you have to read throughout the whole damn thing![/li][li]It’s grey grey grey.[/li][li]The visual effects are impressive and well done.[/li][li]It is grey.[/li][li]It has one decent joke, and that is the premise. The actual script manages to bypass any actual comedy, even in the absurdly desperate setups. It is not even slightly amusing.[/li][li]It’s grey! Everything is just a different shade of grey! Even the red things are grey![/li][/ul]

It is not on Netflix Streaming, so I’m unable to watch and offer an opinion.

Better or worse than FDR:American Badass?

I am unsurprised that people do not like the movie. I think that it would appeal to a relatively small audience.

On the other hand, if you though the acting was atrocious, I think you might have been comparing it unfairly. I think the fair comparisons would be, for instance, *Death Race 2000 *or *Little Shop of Horrors *(the original). Compared to those, I thought the acting was pretty damn good.

The color palette was very gray, though. Can’t argue with that.

  • The premise is ridiculous and they run with it brilliantly. It’s certainly worlds better than the recent nazi zombie flick.
  • It never really drags and is good fun throughout.
  • As a red-blooded male I approve of the casting decisions.
  • The 3D is surprisingly good.

But even bearing all that in mind, it’s an OK movie not a great one. Can’t think of anything that made me lol.
Great for netflix, I would have been disappointed to see it at the cinema.
