IRS (and Turbotax) Set Up Online Portal to Get Stimulus Checks Faster

On Saturday, TurboTax debuted an online portal where low-income Americans who don’t file a tax return can send their information to the IRS to get their stimulus payment as soon as possible.
Non-filers can provide their direct-deposit details or mailing address and choose how they want to receive their stimulus check.
The IRS is expected to begin sending direct-deposit payments to many Americans as early as Thursday.
Paper checks will be mailed after that, beginning around April 24.

While Turbotax is naturally including an option to file taxes with Turbotax, if you ignore that option the site gives you the option of entering your banking direct deposit information (a bank direct deposit will be faster than getting a check)

Did anyone find a way to do this directly at the IRS site? Or do Turbotax competitors provide similar facilities?

The IRS already has their direct deposit information: the stimulus checks would just be deposited in the same bank the Social Security check is deposited into.

What if you file tax returns but receive your refund via paper check-like me? Can you still use the site to submit direct deposit info?

I just read the link and answered my own question, I think.
The answer is no- not through that portal, at least. I’m going to ask my accountant.

There is a portal due to open on April 17 for people who do file taxes, but don’t have their direct deposit info on file with the IRS (because they either didn’t get a refund or got one and didn’t have it direct deposited in either 2018 or 2019). I got a refund last year and haven’t yet filed my 2019 taxes (and don’t plan to prior to the stimulus checks coming out), but I did not have my refund direct deposited. I will be signing into the portal on April 17 to give them my bank info to get the check direct deposited. I also found out that since my son is over 17, but is still my dependent (a college student), then I will NOT get any amount of money on his behalf nor can he receive his own check (he filed his own taxes last year) because he is a dependent on my return.

What about low-income Americans who do get Social Security?

Many people want to know when to expect their direct stimulus payments from the federal government. Starting mid-April (likely the week of April 13) the IRS is expected to make approximately 60 million payments to Americans through direct deposit for people who used direct deposit on their 2018 or 2019 tax returns. This will include Social Security beneficiaries who filed federal tax returns that included direct deposit information.

Shortly after that (hopefully within 10 days) after the first round of payments are made in mid-April, the IRS plans to make a second round of payments. These payments will be made to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019 and receive their Social Security benefits via direct deposit. The estimates are that nearly 99 percent of Social Security beneficiaries who do not file a return receive their benefits through direct deposit.

Approximately three weeks after the first round of payments are made (the week of May 4), the IRS is expected to begin issuing paper checks to individuals. The checks will be issued in reverse “adjusted gross income” order—starting with people with the lowest income first.

Official IRS portal for non-filers to get their info to the IRS. There will be a way for filers to check on the status of their payment, and add bank info, coming about the 17th of April.
