Is a penis more appropriate than labia in mainstream film?

I assume that “hardly ever” means, at the very least, that we’ve seen the vulvae of less than half of all actresses. In other words, most actresses’ vulvae have not been seen. This being the case, how could one know that most actresses shave? It isn’t necessarily the same proportion among those who have been seen as those who haven’t.

Depending on what survey results one uses, at least half the women in the US have either partly or fully hairless pubic regions, so its not quite as common as shaving armpits but its getting close. Why would actresses be any different. Also, if you listen to the commentaries to HBO episodes of Game of Thrones and Board Walk Empire you will hear directors speaking about the use of ‘merkins’ or female pubic wigs that are necessary as the actress are shaven. (You can generally tell as well if you keep your eyes open.) The use of them by actresses in mainstream nude roles is ubiquitous.

Also, in the movies and series that I have been addressing where subdued lighting and obtuse camera angles have been used, you can see that the actress is shaved or waxed even though its not possible to see the vulva or cleft itself.

This is the last reply I’m posting on this thread so I’m just going to make clear my motivation especially as a few snide comments have already been made. I am a man who is heartily fed up with feminist agendas and propaganda about this and many other issues. They are based on intellectual dishonesty and never let the facts get in way of a good story.

Um, exactly what agenda and propaganda are you railing against?

In this post, I do not feel WilyQuixote was arguing. For what it’s worth, I’m curious, too.

johngtd, please understand - you woke a zombie. The last post made before yours was over a year ago, so naturally, there’s curiosity about what the heck did you type into Google that brought you to this thread??

Sometimes it’s a nice zombie. Within the last month, there was one that answered a question about a cartoon about hippos… 14 years later! That’s awe inspiring. (I love this board!!) And what Google search led that person there?

Sometimes the zombie is not so nice. Also within the last month, another poster joined the SDMB solely to yell at us about IUDs …in a thread that was 15 years old!! WTF?!
Forgive us, we’re curious. It’s one of the things we do best.

There’s lengthy and vigorous discussion somewhere in the Game of Thrones episode threads (which are legion) about naked actresses and whether or not their evident “sculpting” was anachronistic. The eventual consensus was that Westeros, and especially King’s Landing, was equivalent to the ancient Roman Empire at its height, when indeed various ladies (and ladies-in-waiting) maintained a nice trim or even sported the bald look; so it was natural to assume GoT characters would follow similar fashions.

Zombie hippos??? Dear God run, for the hills!

You resurrected a year old thread on nudity in films; a “few snide comments” is hardly unexpected.

Others have adequately addressed your responses to my previous posts, but I am also curious about what “feminist agendas and propaganda” you are referring to. Rather then clear up your motivation(s) you have muddied the waters.

You gotta admire a man with strong labia principles.

Alright, OK, possibly I was wrong about what was being alluded to.

The answer to your question probably answers another that has been asked. If you scan the web over the past couple of years there has been an agenda (one of many others) run by feminists and their hangers-on to get more graphic male nudity (read erect penises) shown on mainstream movies and TV as a way of balancing out the number of breasts that get shown. Yes, believe it or not, these people who have denigrated everything male for the past 50 years now feel dick deprived.

Much misinformation and intellectual dishonesty has been presented by them in support of this idea. So, because I had a few spare hours I made it my mission to go round to these various web sites to put contrary views based on logic and fact. Your thread came up as part of the search I did to find these websites.

You’re the masked dickfender?

I can’t say this is something I have noticed. I tried several variations of “feminist erect penis mainstream movie” on Google without obtaining a single valid result. I’m sure you have some links at hand?

Such as?

Susan Blakely really outdoes Sharon Stone in ‘Capote’ starring Ben Gazzara. She is a real blonde.

Wow, they both starred in films called Capone and Capote? What are the odds of that? Gazzara as “Tru” seems like a very daring casting choice. And what would a woman be doing naked in bed with him?

I was shocked by how naked (and detailed) Alexis Dziena was in “Broken Flowers” (I wonder if Bill Murray was too!)

Capote was Capones gay alter ego…:smack:

Intimacy
9 Songs
Antichrist
Caligula
Base Moi
Cannibal Holocaust (warning this movie is extremely graphic. Borderline snuff film)
Q (yes the title is just Q there is more labia in that movie than you can handle)

There are more I just can’t think of them at this moment. Just google explicit sex in mainstream movies. There is a wiki page with a ton of them.

To cite The Avengers, the term is quim.

Don’t be so sure. There was a film about the WW2 Resistance and it showed one of them bleaching or dying her pubic hair.
