What’s a Truckstop Turkey? Is it literally turkey you’ve bought from a truck stop, or is it a particular recipe?
They turned themselves in at the police station, got arrested there (“There was a third possibility which we hadn’t even counted upon”), and were then taken to the “quote, scene of the crime’, unquote”.
It was about ending the war and stuff. It worked.
Prove me wrong!
You, sir, deserve a pickle. Or at least a ride on a motorsickle.
What if he doesn’t want to eat one?
Nope, football. LOL
Then he gets the ride on the motorsickle
I do know
I don’t wanna die
now what?
I don’t have a tradition of listening to “Alice’s Restaurant” on Thanksgiving, but I’m familiar with the song. Earlier this week at work I was dealing with a weird network problem that it took me half a day to eventually figure out a workaround for (never did figure out what the actual problem was). Anyway, when I got home that night I told my wife “I’m not even going to try to tell you about what happened at work today.” (Her eyes generally glaze over immediately anytime I start discussing anything technical.) And then I added “I’m not even sure I could explain it if I had 27 glossy color photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one.” She had no idea what I was talking about so I said “Alice’s Restaurant?” Well apparently she knew the chorus but had forgotten most of the actual narrative, so I had to pull it up on my phone and play it for her.
Tragic.
Robin tends to work holidays because now that the older members of our families are all gone into the great unknown the younger members go their separate ways most of the time.
So one Thanksgiving it was just me and Aaron sitting around and watching football while she was at work, every so often asking each other what we were going to do for food. Finally, around 8:30 or so, I looked up what was open. The choices were limited, as you might expect, but I noticed that the Petro truck stop’s in-house restaurant, Iron Skillet, was doing a Thanksgiving buffet for the truck drivers, travelers, and generally apathetic people like myself.
As it turned out, it was really good. All-you-can-eat Thanksgiving for around $20, no all-day prep necessary or huge cleanup, and so Aaron and I went to town and when we were done we told Robin about it.
So, for the times my sister doesn’t host Thanksgiving in her big house, our go-to is Truckstop Turkey. It’s no longer a buffet thanks to COVID, but it is still bottomless and they have all the same stuff, only now they bring it out to you. Sometimes it’s the three of us, sometimes it isn’t, but it’s become one of those weird accidental things that become family traditions.
I like the sound of it. Truck stops tend to have good food.
It just came around on the guitar this year, I’m listening to it right now.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
I just listened to it while driving through Stockbridge Massachusetts. Didn’t see any garbage though. Happy Thanksgiving.
My husband just called me from his truck (while on a last minute trip to the store) to have me listen to it on his radio! Love it.
Apparently it takes just just over 18 minutes and 20 seconds to make deviled eggs…It’s a tradition that can’t be beat!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
I will be listening (and singing) at noon pst on KINK 101.9 here in Portland.
You can thank Officer Obie for that.
I’ve never heard it.
Kid, You need to rehabilitate yourself.
