Heard of what?
I know! It’s almost like there are people out there who weren’t alive in the sixties!
That’s funny, I heard it first ini the late 70’s.
Yearly bump for the East Coasters. The traditional noon broadcasts start, fittingly enough, 18 1/2 minutes from now.
This is the 12st century. I’m YouTubing it.
Recently the local classic rock station was playing Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” and they skipped past the verse with
That little faggot’s got his own jet airplane,
That little faggot is a millionaire.
I was extremely disappointed, because I was singing along with the Al Yankovic/Beverly Hillbillies lyrics, and I especially like singing the part with
That little Clampett’s got his own cement pond,
That little Clampett is a millionaire.
That was supposed to be ‘21st’ century. :smack:
We just listened to it. I might play it again later.
Here in Portland, Kink 101.9 fm will be playing it at noon left coast time. I’m the only one here at work, and I’ll be listening.
I, your humble OP, missed it this year because we were on vacation in the Bahamas. Now I have to go YouTube it, too.
WDIZ in central Florida played it at the same time forever, as did one of the rock stations in Jacksonville. The last time I went back to Jax for T-giving, I wasn’t able to find it, and I found that the stations had swapped formats.
I always pull the song up and play it via youtube. It makes me laugh.
I don’t currently have a copy of the original, so I listened to the 30th anniversary version (same cover pose, except Arlo’s hair is gray), which includes both the Chip Carter story and the priceless comment “I only made one movie…because I saw it”. Then I coincidentally turned on the radio just as WXRT was playing the original. A couple Thanksgivings ago I was in New York and tried to make a pilgrimage to the building on Whitehall Street, but it seems not to exist anymore.
It’s that time again, and this year is the 50th anniversary of the events that inspired it! Don’t forget to listen.
Just played it. It’s still early; I may play the remake version later.
Thanks for the bump. I’ve got it on now as I’m watching the bread rise.
Still Arlo, but maybe something you haven’t heard.
Watching him on PBS now
WRNR in Annapolis played it on Thanksgiving. I don’t know if they do it every tear, but I’ll definitely listen next year to find out. I hadn’t heard it in years.
I never heard of it until the early eighties, but it’s an old favorite of mine. It is not, however, a Thanksgiving tradition.
You want to know if I’m moral enough to join the army, burn woman, kids, houses and villages after being a little bug?
