hahahahahaha…I remember seeing the Macy’s day parade in person, and most of the bands I’d never heard of. It was all “The Suite Life of Hannah That’s So Raven” I also loved the lame-o signers who can’t sign worth shit.
I saw the Jedi Stormtroopers and just laughed my ass off.
I missed the parade, but then I don’t think I’ve seen one in decades, or even heard it mentioned in years. Until you posted it I’d forgotten about it. Guess it’s only previewed in the sports part of the news broadcast, the part I skip.
No parades. No football.
Lotsa Twilight Zone, though. SciFi channel is doing a marathon!
Actually, I wasn’t watching it on TV, I was watching this clip on YouTube. It looks like it’s shot in the dark.
Today, though, I see that there’s a lot more video of this part of the parade - in the light - so I guess the video I found was just poorly made.
I never watch it on TV, but when I lived in Pasadena I literally lived two blocks from the middle of the parade route, so if I managed to roll out of bed I’d go watch it. The floats live are pretty amazing, I must admit.
I agree about the Thanksgiving parade, but I think the Rose Parade has resisted that sort of thing. The only bands you’ll see in the Rose Parade are of the marching variety. One year, we went to view the floats a few days later. That was more fun than seeing them on TV. The idea of covering huge machines in flowers and seeds is interesting but cooler in real life than in person. I can see how going to see the parade would be not worth it for most people. http://www.tournamentofroses.com/events/showcase.asp
Normally, my parents turn on the parade, so I end up watching it on TV every year. This is my first year that I can remember not watching the parade, since I was too busy being in the parade, as a proud member of the USC Trojan Marching Band. Extremely tiring, but completely worth it to see all the fans along the route cheering for USC (I heard an estimate that 1 million people were there) plus they gave us In-N-Out at the end. I probably have three more years in this band, and I hope we go to the Rose Bowl (and therefore the Rose Parade) at least twice more in that time.
