Oh my god. I’ve never watched this before but I was sucked in by promos featuring the disgusting Bentley and oh wow… I need someone to explain this guy to me. What in gods name would prompt someone to go on television and prove for millions of people that you are a mindblowingly assholish asshole among assholes? What possible benefit do you think you are going to get from this? If you even had a chance to do what you supposedly intended, which was to promote your business, why do you think that being the biggest dickhead in the history of reality TV would encourage anyone to patronize your business, unless your business is “How to Be a Fuckhead”?
Having said that, Ashley herself is incredibly pathetic, and if I were her, I would be a basket case after finding out (as she now has, of course) how completely incapable I am of reading anyone, and/or, how my own shallowness makes me utterly blind and stupid.
Reality Steve made an interesting point about how the producers on the show are not entirely blameless there. They knew damn well that he was lying to her all along and let him do it anyway without telling her.
In case you don’t know, that guy’s website has provided accurate spoilers for this show for several seasons now. He has a source that NBC can’t find that gives him info about every episode - who goes home, where they go, etc.
He also gets lots of inside info about the way they edit footage and manipulate everyone to say things on camera. For example, everything anyone says straight to the camera was shot days later and put together to sound any way they want it to sound.
Be careful reading it if you want to remain unaware about who she picks.
The simple fact that this guy was on tv means that it’ll get him women. Hell, women still swooned over Ted Bundy, so why would they be hesitant about an asshole? Plus, there’s probably a good portion that thinks they can change him.
Already read it, know who she picks, and I picked him out the gate. SO glad! He was my choice on the first episode, head and shoulders above the rest. But I’ll still watch.
As for editing, I know all that…but Bentley is not a product of editing. I don’t care how you edit, those are the things he said, and he’s a complete dick.
It’s not usually this ridiculous. But, it’s pretty ridiculous. They picked Ashley to be The Bachelorette this seasons solely because she never. Stopped. Crying. On the last Bachelor. Then they manufactured more drama. I predict that they attempt to send her totally over the edge.
I love bad “reality” drama and dumbasses crying, but I don’t want to see someone cry ALL the time.
Bentley will not suffer from any shortage of women, simply because he is freaking hot. A lot of the guys are crazy good-looking… damn. This is why I watch the Bachelorette and not The Bachelor. Even creepy maskboy is strikingly handsome.
Ashley is creeping me out with her drama queenness. Good god, woman! Get a hold of yourself! I’d hate to see the meltdown when she sees the footage of Bentley saying those things to the camera. Hoo boy. He’s right about some things, though- she’s really not that attractive. But still, he’s an ass. But hot.
Shows to go how subjective such things are. Ashley is one of those women who is perfectly nice-looking, fit, and well-groomed, but has nothing particularly compelling going on.
And exactly the same can be said of nearly all of the men: completely generic, almost no sex appeal anywhere, (certainly not in Bentley, who is doughy looking) and what’s mostly apparent is that they are all fit and well-groomed. But aggressively boring.
Don’t watch the show, but based on the footage, yeah, he’s a douche. Still, I thought it was pretty obvious he was insincere scum even while he was interacting with her. How could she not get what a douche he is? He couldn’t even look her in the eye, spoke with zero inflection and seemed uncomfortable every time she spoke to him. Ladies, take a hint.
I kind of feel like his whole performance was something of a parody. Making a mockery out of something that mocks itself.
That’s the second part… she’s an idiot with such pathetic self-esteem that of course she’d lock on to the one guy who is treating her like shit even though she doesn’t realize it consciously. She’s got that radar that so many women seem to have… that shithead compass that keeps them pointed at True Asshole.
Nope. Because that’s what you have to be to get on these shows. The more douchebags, drama queens, trainwrecks they can put on the better. It’s what people watching reality TV expect to see these days. It’s what sells.
The producers love this kind of crap and were certainly encouraging his behavior. If they didn’t like what Bently was doing, they could have given him no screen time and then have Chris say he left for personal reasons. As it is, they put him in promos to drive up ratings.
I wonder if Ashley gets a bonus for bigger ratings? Then she would be motivated to be as dramatic about this crap as possible.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone who actually understands the “game” to be on a dating show. I give him all of the props possible. He came in, had an agenda, and completed it to perfection. He used the game and the show to do what he wanted. On Survivor there have already been several people who understood the game (or thought they did) and did well because of it (Russell Hantz, Boston Rob, Johnny Fairplay) and I’m glad to see that it is spreading.
I think Bentley showed that if you use the lines, pay attention to where the Bachelorette is, how she might be feeling, put yourself down so that she thinks you are really comfortable, don’t go for the kiss but just be really cozy and close to her, and the ultimate kicker- talk about how much you love your children and how it just didn’t work out with your previous spouse/girlfriend, you can win easily. So I vote not a douche in any way, a totally straightforward gameplayer who just handed everyone their own jaws on a platter.
