It is out and available at many pharmacies. In my area of the US, Nebraska, it was first available last week. I got my 2024-2025 Covid and flu shots last Wednesday.
Excellent, thank you.
Is it both Moderna and Pfizer? Or just one or the other?
Also, if you had one the whole time can you use the other with no fuss and it all works?
You can use either. That was true since the 2nd round of shots.
The initial pair of shots together made the first inoculation. They were suppose to match. Some suggested mixing was actually better, but I didn’t fact check that part.
Last week my pharmacy offered only Pfizer, other pharmacy chains like a friend’s CVS offered a choice. I assume with my pharmacy it was a matter of being regional rather than national like CVS, supply chain logistics, etc. When I was there a few days later there was a choice of Covid vaccines.
The latest (August 23, 2024) from the CDC says any of the authorized vaccines are good, no recommendations for Pfizer over Moderna or vice versa once age and immunocomprised levels are considered and met.
There’s no danger in getting the vaccine sooner, but it’s a waste of a jab. You have substantial immunity from recovering from covid, and it’s not significantly increased by a vaccine. Whereas if you wait 3-6 months, you will get a substantial bump in immunity. You also extend the amount of time when you have enough immunity to be unlikely to get sick at all.
I had covid early summer, and plan to wait until October, when it will have been 6 months. If i was higher risk, I’d do it right away (it’s been more than 3 months) because there’s a fair amount of covid going around now.
I’m on my second card. Just got the latest flavor of the Pfizer sort day before yesterday. The pharmacist was a little surprised when I produced the card, because they track vaccinations online and most people don’t carry the cards any more, but filled it out for me anyhow.
I haven’t the faintest clue where mine or any of my family’s is. I think I last used it in 2022. Maybe. It could have been 2021.
I am not sure how mine would be tracked online. I belong to several different health umbrella organizations which do not communicate with each other. My doctor’s office will sometimes give me shots and sometimes I get them at a local pharmacy (different ones). So unless they are all somehow communicating there is no accessible online data in my situation.
I have not been asked for my card in over two years.
That said, there’s apparently some sort of reporting mechanism because my record in my doctor’s EHR has a bunch of vaccinations I have received elsewhere like drugstores, drive-through COVID vaccinations, etc…
It’s incomplete though, and in strange ways. Last year’s flu shot was actually done by the County people, but it doesn’t show up. Nor does my 2019 flu vaccination from CVS. My 2022 COVID booster was from CVS, and it shows up, but the 2023 one from CVS does not.
I still have mine in my wallet. Two cards now, and I keep both there. I also snap a picture when there’s an update, and I put that photo into a Medical album so it’s easy to find. Hopefully.
Depending where you live, they may all be sending that info to a state database.
I don’t think PA has a central database and each provider is a stand alone system depending on how they are organized. It’s a bit of a mess. I used to request copies of my medical records years ago but at this point I don’t really care too much.
I would like to get my vaccinations and medications sorted out in all of the systems. I’ve been trying to do that with one stand alone organization which is my hematology clinic but it states I have to do this in person. I tried to do it on the ap but it wouldn’t let me. I only have appointments there once a year. Weird systems for sure.
My state has a state database that everyone who administers vaccines is supposed to talk to. It predated covid, and they just added covid to the list.
Same here, my state has had its DB (registry) since 2005.
Big Brother.
Pennsylvania is traditionally behind the times with every facet of administration. I plan on asking my doctor and pharmacist in the next couple months how things are organized. I have appointments in October.
I need to sort all of this out for my 2 cousins who I have recently appointed as Power of Attorney. So many details to work through…I’ll update my findings here if I get a decent response. But it’ll be awhile.
My vaccinations are in my health record, but one part lists all of my COVID vaxes and the other is missing one (you know, the one from a pharmacy that my health system has marked “verified” where it actually appears in my chart). I have a copy of each version on my phone.
Hrm, I got a vaccine just today. I asked if it was the “new” one, but I’m not sure if the assistant understood what I was asking.
If the Moderna I got is the “old” one, how much of a difference will it really make?
I’d be very surprised if anyone was offering anything other than the latest, updated Moderna right now. IIRC, as soon as an updated version becomes available, all the outdated stuff is jettisoned right away. You can check with whoever provided you your jab yesterday, though.
