Is anyone planning on getting "MAG."

It’s an upcoming shooter for the PS3 which seems more like Battlefield 2 than Modern Warfare.

I have $60 credit for Gamestop and I’m trying to decide if I should pick it up or not.

I was planning on it. I prefer games like Battlefield to COD.

I will be picking it up - I played the open beta and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 32 v. 32 player maps worked great with no performance issues. I’d be curious to see how the 256 player maps work.

How is the teammwork aspect of it? What about the classes?

Teamwork predictably varies by round - depends on the players (or yahoos) that you get paired up with. Having said that, by the end of the open beta it got better, as the more experienced and serious players took the leadership roles and coordinated the battles to some extent.

There were only a few classes available at the start (there may be more in the full game - many features were blocked I assume to the fact that it was only the beta). I didn’t spend much time working on upgrades, just playing the maps so I can’t speak much for them. One thing that I did notice though was the change in relative experience points for doing various things. After playing MF2 and getting +150xp for a kill for instance, it is only worth +5xp in MAG so at the end of the round, you end up with a total of +70xp and it seems puny by comparison (obviously the level targets are lower, but still…)

I did the special effects on that game. I left about halfway through production, though, and I don’t know if anyone ever actually replaced me (or any of my effects, for that matter- I was the only one who knew how to use the Effect Tool).

Internal playtests back when I was there were fun- glitchy, but fun. I’ll pick it up, and I hope it does well even though I won’t be getting any sort of royalty on the title.

I picked up the game and I am enjooying it so far (I would play more but stupid college is getting in the way). The match set up is really easy, as is choosing your weapons.

Wait for word on Bad Company 2.

MAG seems to be based entirely on a gimmick. Gameplay sucks at high player counts.

I don’t get why I’d want 500 players on a map at one time.

It’s war son! :stuck_out_tongue:

And I guess it’s a good thing it’s limited to 256 players. While I don’t have a PS3, I’m very interested in how a 256-player battle would work.

I don’t have a PS3 and I’d happily try it out. I, too, am interested in how everything works, but I do like standard 4 vs 4 the best. I can only imagine the amount of extracurricular chatter that would pop up with 256 people.

I haven’t heard anything out there because everyone is slotted into squads, so you only hear them.

How big are the squads?

Eight people.

Based on the streams I’ve seen of it, it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from a 256 player game. Lots of spamming and turtling.

8 people isn’t a bad size. It’s towards the upper limits of what I’d like to play with, but I’m still intrigued.

I’m not nearly intrigued enough to get a PS3 because of it, though. I’ve got more Halo coming soon (ish).
