Well, they actually managed to get The Sims Online out before Christmas. Has anyone tried it yet?
I really love The Sims, but The Sims Online doesn’t appeal to me. I read reviews of the play test, and the game play seems very focused on socializing. There were also complaints that there wasn’t enough to do and that the game got boring.
I’d love to find out what people playing the final version think.
For lots of opinions on it go to http://thesims.ea.com/us/index.html and read the message boards under “unleashed.” There isn’t an official Sims Online forum, so most of the posts are ending up there. Use the search feature if you get sick of scrolling through pages.
I was part of the beta test - and I’m not going to play the real thing. At least not yet.
It just wasn’t very much fun. Definitely had potential. But enough things didn’t make enough sense (the economy, for example didn’t work at all, various other things were merely really, really annoying.) that it got in the way of enjoying the game. It was just frustrating. For me, at least. And yes, the forced psuedo-socialization was a big part of it.
Maybe after they’ve had time to refine it and get the rest of the idiocies out, it’ll be fun. I might keep looking at reviews and possibly try in 6 months or so.
Same here, amarinth. I deleted it because it was messing up and tried to reinstall it but couldn’t, so I said, “What the hell,” and didn’t worry about it.
Some but not all. There’s a lot of room for the game to grow, but pizza maker is still a “ss st sc” affair, and almost every place worth going to is still a department store type of place. I rarely spend any time in my own house, because there’s no real benefit in doing so. Lag is bad. Sims still do stupid things. It’s really, really boring to watch your Sim reading a mech book or doing something work related that doesn’t involve your participation. I usually set my Sim to a task and then switch over to my other computer to surf.
It’s true, paying to chat does seem kind of a rip off. I’m only there now because AOL gave two free months when you purchase the game. I really don’t know if I’ll stick around after that but it’s kind of fun when you’ve made friends and have a home that is quite popular :). It does get very boring sometimes. I guess only time will tell if this game is going to last.
