mrAru and I are downsizing a fair amount - changing to electronic files for our media, ebooks, MP3s, MP4s. Realistically, we don’t need cable, we currently just use streaming on our TV - Amazon Prime, Netflix, Youtube and stuff from the hard drive shared via bluetooth.
I already don’t ‘do’ girly wardrobe stuff, I have about 5 total sets of footgear [a pair of nice maryjanes, casual sneaker sort of shoes, flipflops and combat boots] a total of 9 pair of pants of varying styles, about double that in tops, and 6 sets of jammies with a suitable amount of socks and underwear. I can not imagine having like 30 pair of shoes! After the housefire, I effectively had a seabag/large MOLLE pack worth of clothes.
Sort of wasn’t our idea, it was a bit of arson. The asshat has now caused at least one human death and at least one animal death [our cat Cat5 died of smoke inhalation =(]
Interesting post. I am reacting very strongly to it, which I find amusing and curious. Regrettably, I’ve begun to care very little about my fellow humans, no matter their superficial similarities or differences. Just as not all men are sexual predators, but enough are; and not all white people are racists, but enough are; and not all conservatives are fascists, but enough are…so it goes with humans being selfish, backstabbing trash. End of America? After the last couple months I couldn’t care less if the Yellowstone Caldera finally made its delivery and wiped out our heartland, and if the polar caps melt away and drown the rest of you. Actually, most of the US popcorn crop is in Indiana. Although we were affected by the derecho it was nearly as much as Iowa was and, in any case, I think we’ll survive a bad year for popcorn.

Also, you would seriously consider El Salvador even with their current crime rate? I wouldn’t - I have a general rule that I don’t want to live in a country that people are fleeing in droves to apply for asylum elsewhere.
I only mentioned El Salvador obliquely because I’d read an article on Buzzfeed (I think?) about an American expat who was living there and loved every second of it. It’s not seriously on my list. Mexico and Costa Rica occupy the two top spots, in no particular order.
My deteriorating health has made any plans I might have once had for TEOTWAWKI moot. My new plan is shelter in place until I starve/freeze to death or get shot.
