I tried the King Hawaiian and I thought it sucked. The bun just tasted wrong for the sandwich and the claim of “extra helping of roast beef” was an outright lie.
I can remember when they made their french fries using mashed potatoes. Gawd, I loved those things! I’ll need to buy a cookie squirter this weekend and see if I can reproduce them.
Sounds like . . . Pringles julienne!
Just got back from Arby’s. The Hawaiian Roast didn’t taste much different than the standard Roast Beef.
I meant to order the Hawaiian Roast Swiss. That would have swiss cheese and Dijon sauce. But I screwed up. Oh well.
If anyone else goes to try. Don’t make my mistake. I got nothing but Bread and meat. Dry as all get out.
I hate it when my arby goes oob. I’ve been to the Doctor, but he’s mystified. I guess I can live with it, but let me tell you, if my quizno goes kaput you’ll hear about it!
I tried Quiznos a number of times. They weren’t bad. But the amount of meat on the sandwiches wasn’t that impressive and the fact that they weighed it out to the microgram right in front of me and even pulled off miniscule bits to get it under their weight seriously put me off returning. Goddamn it, if it’s 1 gram over whatever the fuck weight you’ve set for it, just let it go. At other places, you get N pieces, they don’t insult you with a scale.
Well, I giggled.
Well, speaking as someone who got the worst case of food poisoning in their life from Arby’s, please allow me to add an appropriately dignified, solemn dirge…
I worked at an Arby’s many years ago. Since the beef is sliced on order, they can’t really pre-portion. At the time, a regular roast beef sandwich contained 3 oz. with only a 1/8 oz. plus or minus.
Love those beef and cheddar sandwiches. I liked when they had the chocolate mint shakes. Now THOSE were good.
Yeah, I always liked the regular fries better than the curly fries. I wish they would bring them back. A couple of years ago the local franchises had an Arby’s rewards card. You got free food after buying x amount of stuff. They were only good in the local area though. I found this out when I tried to use it to redeem for a free sandwich in another town. That kind of pissed me off.
Nobody mentioned the best thing at Arby’s - the turnovers? Seriously?
Going to only curly fries were what made me not care if Arby’s went out of business. I’ll have to see if the local one has the homestyle fries, I love sandwiches on King’s Hawaiian rolls.
Inexperienced franchise owners are going NOOB.
I guess I’m glad I never ate there. I’ve walked in to Quizno’s several times because the idea of a toasted sub seems appetizing – in fact it’s making me hungry right now. But I never found anything in particular on the menu that appealed to me, and seemed a bit pricey. I guess it is more than a bit pricey if the portions are also small.
I like Quizno’s OK - their chicken carbonara sandwiches are pretty good - but Arby’s has been a favorite of mine for years. My parents used to take me to one in Pittsburgh when I was a kid. I fell in love with the beef and cheddar sandwiches, loaded with Arby’s sauce, and the jamocha shakes. Yum! The curly fries are OK; I can’t say I miss the older kind they used to carry.
I’ve only seen one Arby’s around here close. They all seem to be doing well otherwise.
Google still thinks the Arby’s on El Camino and Bernardo in Sunnyvale is still open if that’s reachable for you. I used to live about a block away.
Arby’s ancedote: I remember being taken to a Arby’s as a very small kid on a road trip somewhere (there weren’t many (any?) in the Fox Cities area of Wisconsin in the 70’s). I had a classic small child hissy fit about the food and haven’t been back to Arby’s since!
I was never a fan.
When eating out, even if it’s just fast food, I prefer to get something that I couldn’t or wouldn’t make myself at home, and I’m quite certain I can duplicate an overcooked, overprocessed roast beef sandwich and fries with Oscar Mayer deli meat and a bag of frozen Ore Ida curly fries. I mean seriously, if you’re going to build a whole brand around a roast beef sandwich, perhaps your roast beef shouldn’t suck.
