I played and enjoyed all the other PC Batman games, but this one seemed to be plagued by a lot of problems. Now it’s on sale for 24 bucks on Steam, so I’m considering it.
I would not buy it for any price. Partly because of the bad port, partly because some dumbass decided the Arkham games needed a heavy helping of out of place tank-on-tank combat, but partly to spite the developers.
It is not.
I had thought they had given up on ever getting the PC version working and pulled it.
Do you have a GPU with at least 3 GB of vram? If no, no.
Do you have a GTX770 or equivalent GPU or better? If no, no.
Do you have at least 8 gigs of RAM in your system (preferably 16 gigs)? If no, no.
Assuming yes to the above, performance shouldn’t be too bad for you.
The game itself was not my favorite in the series, but it wasn’t a bad game overall. As mentioned, the parts that suck the most are the forced Batmobile sequences, which are essentially tank sequences, everything else, while not best in class vs the older games, still features the great Batman mechanics, great characters (well, one great character and several ok ones) and some superb looking graphics.
I think it’s worth $24 easy. Really at this point in time, IF you’ve got beefy hardware, it’s the best version (as it’s usually the case, even with poor ports).
They pulled it, but released some updates then put it back up. The game still requires a lot of VRAM and system RAM or you’re likely to encounter game stuttering.
I didn’t mind the tank combat all that much, honestly. The only thing that drove me crazy was the Batmobile, and the racing to get various Riddler trophies. There are still 2 that I can’t get.
ETA: I play it on the PS4, though, not the PC.
Ugh, yes, you reminded me that the racing puzzles were the worst, specially that last one. I almost bailed on the game there.
I know this thread’s a few months old, but I wanted to say I bought this for $15 during the latest steam sale. I’ve got a AMD FX-6300 and R9 270 2 GB GPU, 16 GB RAM, so I meet the minimum requirements but not the recommended. I’ve been playing it for a few hours, and have the following observations:
The graphics set up tells you how much VRAM you’ll be using vs. how much you have. I pretty much went with the recommended settings, but tweaked a few settings without a problem. Low texture resolution was the biggest thing that kept me running smoothly.
The game so far is a lot of fun, with no stuttering or other issues. Two game crashes while in the batmobile though.
I really wish I could turn off the rain.
As every review has said, the batmobile feels completely forced into the game. I’d have been perfectly happy without it.
I still think the Arkham games are better on console, but a next gen console isn’t in the cards at the moment
I also got it for 15 bucks with all the DLCs, and was going to revive this thread but you beat me to it.
I liked it a lot. It was fun to play, I thought the story was good, and I actually liked the tank battles, although it looks like I’m in the minority on that one. I liked it enough to play it through twice. I only did one of the race things, though, I dislike race games.
I did not encounter many bugs in many hours pf playing. A couple times I “fell through the world”, once after finding myself in a building that one was not supposed to be in, it had no interior.
I thought it was 15 bucks very well spent.
$15 with DLCs? Nice. The steam sale was $15 for the game and a few skins only.
BTW, does anyone know what the rotating green grappling target means? When you have a grappling target available, the indicator is usually a white circle, with 3 white axial lines in it. But sometimes, the target indicator is a white circle with 3 green axial lines, which rotate. I have no idea what that is supposed to indicate, and haven’t found any info on it either.
This makes no real sense.
You can (and I certainly do) play this game with a game pad on PC. And the PC version of all of these games is the superior one in every way shape and form (Arkham Knight’s release not withstanding as it is now the better version).
What makes the console version better for you? The Sony logo on the top? The more expensive price at release? The limited control options mayhaps?
/snark - I guess for you personally it might be that you don’t have a more powerful PC?
I’m 50% sure ( ) that it means you’re grappling unto a safe overlook. Like a gargoyle.
That plus sitting on the couch watching the big ass plasma with the surround system going and getting advice shrieked by my kids is far more enjoyable than sitting on a crappy desk chair listening to cheap PC speakers, by myself.
Plus getting a rise out of you or SenorBeef is always worth it.
Yeah, I finally hit the google term that found what I wanted (the secret word was reticle), and that seems to be the consensus - a vantage point where you can’t be seen & can plan attacks.
May I suggest a Steam link? This way you can drive the game on your PC, but play it on your TV. Or next time you’re building a new PC or looking to upgrade, consider a small form factor case, this way it too will fit and look nice under you TV, since playing PC game son your TV isn’t an inherent limitation of PC gaming.
I truly didn’t, and don’t intend for this thread to turn into another PC vs. console. Suffice it to say that a steam link looks interesting, but the fact that the link would have to be wifi at some point and the steam link page says wired is “strongly recommended” makes me leery. And the PC is used for things other than gaming, so putting it under the TV isn’t an option either.
Back to the game - met an old friend last night, and later had a good jump scare while cruising rooftops on the 2nd island. This game is really fun.
Steam link would require a really good wireless signal, but I’ve had friends get good results even through a wall or two.
One of the best moments of the game is that first encounter. Sad story too.
I might jump back for another go once I’m done with the last Witcher expansion. I did run it briefly to check out how well it ran on my new 1070… and man, it was something else: 1440p well over 60 FPS everything on ultra. I’ll always love being able to go back to games I’ve already played, with better hardware and having that help create a fresher experience.
Missed the edit window, but if you’ve got Amazon prime they’ll offer a free refund on it if it doesn’t work for you. Don’t know about Steam, they might charge you for return shipping. Still, for $40 it’s an easy thing to try out.
"You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it.
It doesn’t matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.
Not 100% sure that extends to hardware, but even if it does, it doesn’t mean they won’t charge him for return shipping. Hopefully not, but he should check first.
