Am I the first person to observe that the thrust of the “Obama’s long-lost and ill-cared-for brother” is basically “Obama isn’t black enough?”
A great deal of the antipathy toward successful blacks is that they enjoy their wealth and fail to do enough to “help a brother out,” presumably donating all their hard-earned millions to black schools, black neighborhoods, and down-on-their-luck black families. This looks to me like another shameless attempt to poison the mind of black and white voters.
The messages are: one, Obama’s dad abandoned him; isn’t that so typical of blacks? Two, he’s not helping a brother out. He’s not black enough now. And three, if Obama does lend his half-brother a few bucks, the same parties would cry, “See? He’s fixated on helping his own people and he’s going to ignore the concerns of whites.”

I’m going to have to call bullshit. You can feel however you want about the situation, but it’s not out of bounds to talk about issues that actually really do apply to him in the real world.
Clinton discovered at least one half-sibling while president. I don’t even know that they ever met. I just can’t see how anybody could even remotely consider somebody with whom you share half a set of genes (but no memory, upbringing, or common background) your responsibility. If it is then we’re all responsible for our first cousins, with whom we probably have more in common than the Obama brothers. Even the half-brother doesn’t seem to regard himself as Obama’s responsibility.

what possible reason would anyone care. Black people will vote for him regardless of how “black he is” and nobody else uses that yardstick.

Ditto, I was just thinking that there is a likely case for this: Barkack may have been refused when he attempted to help his half brother…maybe it’s against social mores to accept money from family?

I don’t know of any cultures that have that kind of thing. Close family members are the people who you can rely on and them on you.
This situation is different though and from the story in the OP I can find nothing to criticise BO about.

He’s a “gateway black guy”. It always starts with the biracials… next thing you know, it’s President Flavor Flav, just like in ancient Rome.
I wonder why his half-brother’s African family isn’t supportive of or on terms with him. From what I’ve read his father was well to do by Kenyan standards (though he did have many children and other relatives to divide anything he left).

It’s the standard story for a bastard. Daddy goes out and slums it with some town hussy, knocks her up and then forgets about it. Happens all the time.

At least Barack acknowledged his half-siblings exist. Cindy McCain won’t even publicly acknowledge that her father had other children.
McCain’s mother suing his first wife is pretty sleazy too.

McCain’s a sleezeball, but of course all that is irrelevant to this thread.

Not if you consider that Clinton had a blowjob. A blowjob!
I cheer myself with the knowledge that any arrangements he made regarding assistance to/further contact with his half-brother are not really any of my business, and I like to think that Senator Obama feels the same way.
And in the OP’s link, didn’t he say he’s makin’ it by on one dollar a month? This guy poentially has it made. All he needs to do is write a book on how to live on twelve bucks a year, then get it on Oprah’s book club. He’ll be rollin’ in it before long.
