Is Board traffic up?

Is there a silver lining in the miasma? I’ve noticed lately the SDMB has slowed down from even its usual standard. Could it be that we’re seeing more users, more posters, longer average time per user, or whatever other metric TPTB would care to share?

I consider the Dope to be essential. I hope I’m not alone.

I agree, the performance has really suffered.

The hang-ups can’t be just a function of heavy usage, I don’t think, because I’m on-board sometimes in the middle of the night and it stalls just as much then too. I know, the sun never sets on the Straight Dope Empire, but I assume that international usage is only a smallish part of overall board traffic. So when it’s nighttime in the Americas, I assume overall traffic must be lower. (Is that so?) So why the incessant stalling during the darktime?

My understanding is that, in part of trying to mitigate the issues, they moved a lot of maintenance tasks to the times of day when the board is used least.

So it would be those tasks slowing things down at night.
